Yes, you will experience discomfort when you fast. The hunger pangs should remind you of how much you need foods to survive and you can relate this to how much we need God's grace to survive.

Also, the hunger pangs we feel can remind us of the suffering that Jesus went through for us to save us from sin.

My experience actually happened backwards. I regularly fast once a year. At a different time of year, I had my lunch pushed up 2 hours at work with no preparation for it.While I was working a away I noticed I was feeling hunger pains and remembered the last time I had really felt that I had been fasting. SO I made a prayer that G-d would accpet this time (2 hours) as a prayer for all those who were starving but wouldn't get to eat in 2 hours. Maybe my pain is great but I know I can eat later, what would it be like if I didn't have that reassurance and comfort- all I had was G-d to suffice me? It worked and I didnt' feel hungry for those 2 hours.

I once fasted for three days, drinking only water, and eating only the body and blood of Christ, twice a day.

It was the only time in my life that I truly relied on God for all of my bodily and spiritual sustenance.

The hunger pangs I experienced were only for him. My entire being looked forward to our next encounter, with a sense of urgency.

God was always on my mind, and nothing came between us.

It was the closest thing to true love (other than my marriage) that I've ever experienced, and I'll never forget it.

You are giving up a very important part of your life, and humbling yourself before God by fasting and praying. IF you are praying while you are fasting, you will not be thinking about your hunger pains.

1 Corinthians 7:5 Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.

Fasting draws you closer to God and builds your faith in Him. But when you fast, do not let others know you are doing it by way of looking hungry. God does not want us to fast like that.

Matthew 6:16 Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

It brakes down your carnal self, and causes you to focus more on hearing from God, that is what Fasting is for, after all, to bring you to a place where you stop focusing on your carnal self, and focus on hearing The Holy Spirit's leading.

I went on a 60 day fast a while back. I found that once my body stopped craving food that I was more sensitive to The Holy Spirit. I could hear the leading of The Holy Spirit. I moved in The Gifts Of The Holy Spirit more freely.

It is a "washing" of the body. A detoxification so to speak. Spiritually speaking it is a cleansing before the Lord for a purpose and shows a loyalty to the condition of the heart for a matter before God. It is uncomfortable and therefore exemplifies our desire to go through discomfort for the sake of prayer and petition towards a need.

Many things can not be explained than to experience. How fasting helps, can be experienced. There will be difficulty initially in fasting a little because of hunger, but more because of fear or Mentally unpreparedness. But again even to fast or try to fast only those people can do who are towards achieving that. It can not come by preaching or teaching but only by experiencing one self.

When we volunteer to fast while praying, we are willing to give up one basic necessity and urge of life for the sake of prayer and the objective of prayer. God accepts suffering as a virtue and the prayer is answered. My fasting prayers are almost always answered.

If you fast for a few days, the pains actually go away for a few weeks. Just drink lots of water. And I am very serious.

Those hunger pangs are how Our Father speaks to you, my son! Do not diss thy pangs! Obey them, for he who suffers most shall win the prize!
