I've been dating the same man for 2 years. We're in the stage in our relationship where we're looking towards our future together. I am Lutheran and I consider my religion to be extremely important to me. My boyfriend was raised Catholic and since his mom died when he was 17, he has drifted away from church and God. I've tried talking to him about it and he thinks he isn't ready yet to go back to church. I'm frustrated because we've talked about getting married, and he knows that I want my kids to be raised in church, baptized Lutheran and have a dad that will share and raise them in a Christian enviroment. I pray for him every night and I have been for 2 years now, but I'm afraid that it's just not going to work for him, he won't even try to talk about it with me. He says he does believe in God, but I want someone who will share my faith with me for the rest of my life. i love him so much, but I'm becoming more and more insecure about us?? Any advice??

Many times the answers I get are "Jesus is truth" or "Trust in God" or "God works in mysterious ways". The majority of the time these answers do not even fit the question asked. Is it too much to ask that rather than get parroted back the same old statements on a repeated basis we get thought out answers? There are many believers that do this, but there are more that just use the same old rhetoric.

There is a story told by most Muslim scholars about prophet Muhammed had an argument with his companions about what should they do with the captives of war (Badr Battle) and he finally decided to release them for ransom (money). The story tells that god did not agree on what prophet Muhammed did and he revealed a verse [8:67] that says no prophet would release any war captives until he has thoroughly subdued the whole earth and killed all pagans first!

That story makes me think of two questions:
1- Was it appropriate from prophet Muhammed to release captives of war for ransom (money)? was not this exactly what pirates used to do? Does this fit a prophet with wonderful teachings?
2- How come god orders Muslims to kill pagans and not to capture (or free) them? Should not god be more tolerant and leave it to people to accept Islam or not?

God in "heaven" is said to be "higher than the heavens".
God on "high" in "heavens" is a "fearful" place to "fall" to.
So it seems one can fall from grace, to law law heavens.
In law/law heavens it's "law" no matter whether left/right.
But God in heaven hath not appointed us unto wrath(law).
It seems those talking of a 'higher power' speak of "grace".

I had always believed in god until the age of 13. Why did I stop? Well, as much as I loved god, he just didn't seem to love me. i'd ask for things I really need and (in my opinion) deserve. I'd try my hardest to accomplish my goals to get what I need and not just put it all on god but still nothing happened. So why does god ignore my prayers? Why should I even believe in him? I don't want to hear some nonsense like he is testing me because if he is I don't want to be his lab rat.

Please think about this, your eternal life depends on it. It doesn't matter who you are or what you believe. Everyone is subject to what the Bible teaches. The Bible says that it's appointed to man once to die, then judgment. When we die God will judge us by His moral standards. If you've lied, stolen, or used God's name in vain, then you've broken His moral laws, and You will be guilty on judgment day. God has provided a way for all of us to be forgiven, and avoid eternal punishment in Hell. Jesus Christ gave His life on the Cross and Rose again to pay the debt for your sins. What you MUST do is, Repent, which means to ask God's forgiveness, turn away from your sins, and put your complete Trust in Jesus Christ. Only then will you be forgiven and accepted into Heaven, not because you're a good person, but because you're a bad person who's been FORGIVEN. Please give this some serious thought. Contact me if you have any Questions.

Matthew 10:34: "Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword."

Jesus ends a parable with the following verse: Luke 19:27 "But these enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and slay them in my presence."

This does not sound peacful to me. Just curious.

Why are some many people so full of hate? It is everywhere, schools, movies, the streets, on the internet, in the news. Why do you think everyone is so full of hate and rage? Where did we get these ignorant blinders to wear? Do you think it stems from insecurity, or is it just some big cosmic battle of good and evil?

(if you don't believe me, check the amount of questions that come up just in this section),

But here's my question

Why is it that nonChristians keep asking questions relating to why do Christians say this or why do Christians say that on this board. Why not ask a real question instead of continually criticizing us?

A lot of people answering my questions have been saying "give Mel Gibson another chance" and pray for him etc.
But is a person who sins on Saturday and praises the Lord on Sunday really going to be saved? If he makes movies that glorify sex (especially out of wedlock-see Lethal Weapon 2) and violence, and lives like a glutton by driving a Lexus and buying $15 million islands, is this man really going to be saved? He speaks profanity, abuses alcohol, and is a disgrace to his family and community.

He has all the resources to be a good Christian. Are we just supposed to forgive him and wait until he makes his next sin?? What good is that? That means we all can repent with 5 seconds left in the 4th quarter and go to heaven?

For example:

I'm an atheist and I don't drink and drive, I have no problem with jews, and I respect authority.

Mel Gibson is a catholic (which is christian) and he drinks and drives, makes sexual advances towards the cop that arrests him, and shouts out anti semitic remarks.

Does knowing you will be forgiven by the higher power that you think exists mean that you can do whatever you want?

I seem to be doing better in life than mel gibson with just my man made ethics and knowledge that there is no evidence of higher powers. I know there is no afterlife because I've never been shown evidence to prove otherwise. I appreciate my life and the lives of those around me because I know that this is all we have. That is why I don't drink and drive.

Mary gets all the attention, but Joseph was there too. Could someone explain what happened with Mary & Joseph? When and how did they die in relation to Christ? Were there other siblings? And how is Joseph viewed by religions today?
