Go to a local occult supply store and ask the people that work there if they know of anyone that is haveing classes. They are usually called Wicca 101. Get all the information about the classess BEFORE you join them. If they charge for them find out what the money is for. They shouldn't charge at all except for supplies during different classes. Also ask about some good beginning books. I would strongly recommend Drawing Down the Moon by Starhawk. Stay away from Raymond Buckland's Big Blue Book of Witchcraft, the info is wrong and misleading. Find out about the experience of the teacher (how long been wiccan, if he/she is part of a tradition ect).
If that doesn't seem to do it for you then go to some community festivals. Sometimes wiccan groups have booths there or are in attendance. Blessed be

For practical application, probably Scott Cunningham has some of the most readable information out there. "Living Wicca" and "Wicca for the Solitary Practitioner" are generally highly recommended.
For historical perspective, don't neglect Buckland, Gardner, Farrar, Valiente, Nichols.
For other points of view, Starhawk's "The Spiral Dance" and "The Earth Path" are two of my favorites.
I wouldn't recommend Silver Ravenwolf, because what good information she has is buried in a lot of bad information, and a newcomer will have a hard time discriminating between the two.
Some answers in this thread are a great indication of the ignorance that still exists regarding Wicca. For example, Aleister Crowley wasn't Wiccan.

yeah i agree go to the bookstore. and, if you look hard enough, there's plenty of ecclectic shops around that have a plethora of books and resources available to you. my favorite author is scott cunningham, but there are other great ones out there. again, i agree, stay away from anything that says "spells" or "teen" such and such, it's udder rubbish. wicca is not about casting spells or mixing potions. and actually, that ignorant person that said "go to your local devil worship store" actually had a good idea, wicca for dummies isn't a bad book. touches on the essentials.
a few good websites.....

I recommend checking yahoo groups. See if there is a group near you. I recommend meeting in a safe , public place. and the group should feel like family and if you have any doubts about the people. leave. QUICKLY.
Otherwise. A trip to your local bookstore - look for the following authors.
Scott Cunninham, Angela De Ly , and AVOID like the plauge : Webster , Anything that says " Teen " "love spells " or " black magic" as those will most likely be utter trash.
also. if your really interested. I recommend a single book.
Witchcraft Theory and Practice by Angela De Ly.

Why not check out your local book shops or library. Books have a ton of info. Personally, I would recommend "Drawing Down the Moon" by Margot Adler. Yea, it's a little outdated now-a-days, but a lot of what is in that book is still very relevant today- respect of nature, self, and others, loving life, having wonder about the world, etc. Best of luck and blessed be.

Do a search online for websites and information. There's as much bad information out there as good, so use good common sense and weed out that, that doesn't work for you.
Go to your local bookstore and look for books by Scott Cunningham, and Starhawk. Read the Kybalion. Stay away from books of canned spells. Read, read, read. Spend time outdoors and become familiar with the cycle of the year and Momma Nature.
May you find what you seek on your new path...

Go to your library, join a group on yahoo and let them know that you're interested in wicca, i'm certain they will welcome you with open arms. Talk to other fellow wiccans. Go to a Paganism chat room.
Blessed Be

Look it up on wikipedia. Its all modern nonsense made up by Alister Crowley. Its certainly not old ancient religion. Its just bits and pieces of stuff he liked and mixed together.
