A lot of people answering my questions have been saying "give Mel Gibson another chance" and pray for him etc.
But is a person who sins on Saturday and praises the Lord on Sunday really going to be saved? If he makes movies that glorify sex (especially out of wedlock-see Lethal Weapon 2) and violence, and lives like a glutton by driving a Lexus and buying $15 million islands, is this man really going to be saved? He speaks profanity, abuses alcohol, and is a disgrace to his family and community.

He has all the resources to be a good Christian. Are we just supposed to forgive him and wait until he makes his next sin?? What good is that? That means we all can repent with 5 seconds left in the 4th quarter and go to heaven?

WilliamZo: Ah, but the tables are NOT turned. I CHOOSE not to abuse alcohol and break the law and live like a glutton. I CHOOSE to follow the Lord and not sin. I think he is making a mockery of Catholicism/Christianity by sinning whenever he wants, saying sorry, and doing it all over again. Don't you think he's ABUSING his right to be forgiven?

I think it's a slap in the face to those of us who choose to control ourselves, and live a decent, law abiding life.

KentS411: Then why do religious people judge everyone all the time for "not being believers" and complain about what the non-religious do? If they'd stop, I'd stop.

SSLPatt: very interesting, I had never heard of that. Does it work for all ages, anytime?

cldb730: when has "relying on ourselves" been a sin? So do you wait for an angel to come down from heaven to wipe your butt?

Look, I'm not saying Mel can't be forgiven. But what no one here has addressed is HOW MANY TIMES? If we repent after major sins, but commit a lot of major sins every year until we die, aren't we just career sinners? That doesn't seem like it's what God intended, does it?

All of us sin on a daily basis - by gossipping, lying, relying on ourselves, worrying, wanting what others have, etc. A person who is a Christian should strive to avoid those sins, but we are all human and mess up. If a person plans to wait until the very end of his life to make a decision, I would have questions about the sincerity of their conversion. (That's not to say that there aren't lots of people who have legitimate death-bed conversions, just that if someone plans to do it that way, they may not be serious about a commitment to Christ.) Also, you never know whether you're going to get a death bed experience. We are never promised tomorrow. As for Mel Gibson, he certainly messed up big time. I hope that was a one-time thing and that his salvation is real. (Has he made movies with out of wedlock sex and profanity since he made Passion of the Christ?) [That's a legitimate question. I really don't know.]

I don't really know whether Mel Gibson can be saved or not. He comes from very religious background. Was lost on a different path for a while, (the drinking, the lethal weapn era,) but I seriously thought that he was back on the right track with The Passion of the Christ. If he's not than I will pray for him. He did do a great thing when he produced that movie. Alot of God's children were brought back to him because of that movie. I think alot of people are too worried about what this one is doing and what that one is doing. Worry more about your spirituality and maybe just maybe you might get it right.. And in the grand scheme of things isn't that more important than what Mel Gibson is doing?

Well, if he made his 9 first Fridays.
During one of those 14 years of Catholic School I claim as the source of my wisdom about religion, I was told if I went to Mass on the first Friday of every month for 9 months in a row, I would be guaranteed by the Blessed Virgin Mary the chance to make a last confession. So I did it. Got up early before school in some of the crappiest weather Omaha can produce to get to church. Now the Blessed Mother always keeps her side of a bargain. As I explained to this Lutheran man I used to hell around with, it doesn't matter that I am a stone cold atheist now. If I was to die on the top of mount Everest, the Blessed Virgin Mother would airlift a priest in to make sure I got a chance to repent.
Anybody else remember the 9 first Fridays? And other fun Catholic Juju?
Mel Gibson is just another in a series of big pious hypocrites. Paste him in your scrapbook and move on

To your very last question. YES! It seems it's all a question of timing. According to my Christian friends, all you have to do is "be sincere in your repentance and accept Jesus," even if you've raped a whole zip code! No rehab, no parole, no half-way house, just zoom! straight to heaven. Now THAT'S what I call forgiveness.

(But don't go thinking these same folks won't have you killed if you're convicted of certain crimes, or if some cases if you trespass onto their property.)

Oh, and about rich people and the eye of the needle and stuff, well, it turns out that was "greatly misunderstood." Gosh, isn't literalism great, when you don't have to take it literally?

Who are we to judge him? Don't we all sin and are forgiven for those sins. He was drunk saying stupid stuff. Who hasn't done that before? Yes, he can be saved, but only the Lord can do it. Not anyone else. And yes we can repent with 5 seconds left. That is the greatness of the Lord. You just don't know when that will be.

Yes that is the benefits of truly being saved is that your salvation is not ever taken away. Everyone sins everyday, but as being a christian we have the opportunity to repent of our sins and start over fresh. And yes that is a daily thing, because we all mess up and sin daily. We struggle each day between our earthly flesh and what God wants us to do.

Let me turn it around to answer this question.
If this was you would you still want to be forgiven and go to heaven. Some of you guys can sure tell Christians they should not judge and yet your so willing to to judge others.
Mel has gone on TV apologized what more do you want Him to do?
It matters little if WE forgive Him the important person is God

"Let he who is without sin cast the first stone."
"Vengeance belongs to me, saith the Lord."

Having said that, the law does need to be enforced, and equally. But the law is not about sin, it is about rules made by human beings. The two things are different. You have every right to expect legal retribution on those who break the law. But you are not entitled to condemn anyone as a sinner.

Animal physique + divine soul = human. guy has capacity to ascend to a godly form status. this is a thought in any case. i think it in my opinion. I disagree with the assertion however with the aid of fact the gods do no longer advance into guy ever. Nor does the Grand Architect of the Universe (G.A.O.T.U.) ever advance into guy nor work together with mankind in any way. This assertion ability that Christianity is authentic and Jesus existed. there is not any data that Jesus Christ ever existed besides the undeniable fact that. hence, I disagree a hundred% with the assertion. this is thoroughly backwards.
