English isn't my native language, and I'd like to know how do you say "push" in "I'm pushing the odds" in other words?

I know what "I'm pushing the odds" means but don't know the synonyms for the "push."

Thanks in advance!

Hello. On summer 2006 I was in US or first time, as an exchange student from Moldova. I have meet good people, made good friends. They gave me some music, which I didn't knew before. It was Banda, Reggaeton and different Mexican / Puerto-Rican music. I looove this music so much, that I keep listening to it EVERYDAY, for 2 months already. My language is from Latin group, so I understand 1% of what the songs are about. The rest 99% - nada. So if somebody can help me, I will be very thankfull. If you want to do that, mail me back, and I'll send you the request. Gracias compadres.

What does "take for granted" mean in these phrases?

Looking back now it seems so clear. I had it all when you were here. Oh you gave it all, and I "took it for granted".
