Languages - June 2006

People feel differently about languages. To me the traditional Chinese characters are the most beautiful characters, but I think French sounds the most beautiful among all languages. What about you? Please share your viewpoints with me. I'm interested in languages and learning them. Thank you.

Unfortunately, she's got a boyfriend, but I'd like to say:
"I will not bother you anymore, but I hope your boyfriend knows that he's the luckiest man alive."

And as a seperate translation, how can I say, "I'm willing to study Spanish and learn it so i can just talk to you."

Please help me translate this accurately, as I will check it a few times before I use anything. Thank you.

I was born in California, lived there 6 months, moved to Indonesia, lived there almost 5 years, moved to North Carolina, lived there 4 years, moved to Washington state, lived there 4 years, moved to Arkansas, lived there less than 2 years, and now I am moving to Ohio. When people ask me what my hometown is, what should I say? What would they call me? (Besides my name) In the south, I am said to have a northern accent, but when we visited the North, they said I had a southern accent. I am very confused!!!

I'm thinking we should put together a not-for-profit service offering free English courses to immigrants & foreigners residing in the U.S. Anyone want to help? With all the people upset about foreigners not speaking English, I'm sure there are many of you who will want to help solve this immense problem by contributing your time and money to the cause. So how would you like to contribute, with your time or with money?

Or are there already massive efforts being made to educate foreigners who can't afford English classes on their own? I haven't heard about it, but certainly some of the megachurches are already contributing to the social welfare of immigrants by helping them acquire English. Perhaps they provide transportation to & from classes as many immigrants can't afford their own cars.

Or maybe I'm wrong. Perhaps Christians think immigrants should figure out how to learn English on their own. If that's the case, we the people will have to step in. Who wants to help?
