I have just gone back to work after being off for disability and I am desperate. My kids are too old to qualify for all the organizations like United Christmas Fund and United Way. All they want are clothes and coats. They are 17,15,14 and really good kids. I feel like a horrible mom that I can't get anything for them. My heart is breaking right now. Does anyone have any suggestions at all? I have asked their schools and written to local tv stations but everyone says my kids are too old for help.

I'm making a list of the stupid things we all do at xmas, can you help me add to it?

So far I have:
1) Bring trees inside
2) Spend ages standing in the cold putting lights up
3) Buy cards for people we've never met just because they sent us one
4) Complain at the cost of presents but still insist on having tons of lights which double the electricity bill!

Can you help add to it????

I'm having a really hard time getting excited about Christmas anymore. I used to love selecting gifts for people and watching to see their reaction when they opened it. But now, many of the gifts I buy seem more obligatory than anything else.

Another problem is that last year just before Christmas a close relative died, and now another close relative just died over the weekend. So I'm feeling more melancholy than anything else.

If it wasn't for my young daughter, I don't know if I'd enjoy Christmas at all. But I do enjoy buying her gifts and playing Santa.

Does anyone have any suggestions to help me snap out of it? I don't like feeling like I'm just going through the motions.

I can only think of giving them a family board game - I can't think of many things to give that would be for the whole family, but I know there must be a lot of ideas out there...

I am of Pagan beliefs, so I would like Christians to explain something to me. In the bible in Luke 1:26 it is said that Mary concieved Jesus miraculously in the sixth month (being June), why then is Jesus's birthday (Christmas) celebrated on December 25th when it is obvious he would have born in March of the following year? Was he miraculously born premature?!? It is painfully obvious that Christianity for the last 1500-2000 years has based so much from the original beliefs of Pagans, prior to the onslaught of violence and domination that King James and others brought upon those who chose not to adapt to the Christain faith.

Frankly my point is this....there were many, many pre-existing days of celebration, births, deaths, etc in the Pagan belief system long,LONG before Christianity came about. There are far too many thoughts in the bible founded from previously held beliefs of "religions" that pre-date Christianity...

I’m 25-year-old male, and my not-so-secret-Santa already told me she got me my present. But that’s easy, she’s my cubicle neighbor. I have to buy a present for someone who works in another department, who works the night shift, and who I’ve only seen once one time I got very very early. I think I’m going to actually talk to her for the first time on the Christmas party. All I know is that she’s 33, she has a boy, and she’s not married.

Any ideas?

My friend's boyfriend is a hardcore metal-head,,, and a gamer. She's always giving him videogames or band-shirts for gifts, and this upcoming holiday, she wants to give him something different. Something more meaningful, maybe? What do you suggest for her?
