Everyone brings a wrapped gift, and numbers are handed out to those there. Number 1 chooses the first gift. Number 2 can take #1 gift, or open a new one., etc. Some rules are that you can only 'move' a gift twice, other parties have no exchange limit.

It's just like a regular gift exchange (at a Christmas party) except the gifts are gag gifts (e.g. fruitcake, an ugly tie, an ugly coffee mug, etc.) that nobody wants. Many times the gifts are from Christmases past. Typically, the host will assign each gift a number and each partygoer will pick a number out of a hat and then they get the gift whose number matches the number that they got out of the hat.

It is a new or gently used item, usually wrapped up, for an exchange. Can be funny or serious depending on who brings it--once got an electric hammer--the funny guy had drilled a hole in the end of the handle and glued in an old plug. Unfortunatly he did not seperate the wires and some other 'funny' guy plugged it in and shorted out the building! This is a great way to get rid of the things you got last year that you did not, ahem, need or want.

White elephant Gift is something that you could have laying around the house that you no longer want or like or even something inexpensive that you bought a store to give to someone. It does not have to be anything fancy.

It is where everyone gets together and exchanges humerous gifts. Usually everyone will get in a circle and pass the gifts around to some music and then keep the gift you are holding when the music stops or they will put everyones name in a box and draw names for gifts. It is fun.

Giving the most awful, horrendous, but funny gifts you can think of. Usually done at a party with that type of theme.

cheap, meaningless gifts exchanges, usually not an assigned exchange, just whoever brings one gets one.

They are fun! You look around your house for something that you don't want (that maybe someone gave you) and you give it to the person you are assigned to. It's a way to get rid of and get more crap LOL
