This has been bothering me reccently. Why I don't know, but somebody asked me for a cigarette the other day, and I swore she looked pregnant, so I lied and said I didn't have any. But my friend said she was just fat.

The political correctness machine has gone so far but it has not yet touched whites. I live in San Francisco and there are recent immigrants who are Russian who are having to identify as white versus the 'African Americans' in the Western Addition and Hunters Point/Bayview. Why? Are't we all just 'American' at this point?

My fiance and I are getting married and we have one problem. His mother is a complete controlling woman. Yes I wanted to use another word. We are afraid she will pick fights or do something dramatic at our wedding to get to get the attention back on her. She bad mouthes me to her side of the family. She is divorced from my finace's day. What can we do to make sure our wedding goes according to plan and minimize the chance of her disrupting the wedding. My fiance' insists she is invited and I won't say no since its his mom. Help! Any ideas?

Some family with loud kids has to sit next to us? Ok so the other day we were traveling and went to eat at this nice resturant. The patio was croweded but inside was not. So we chose a seat in the corner that was obviously away from everyone else and this couple with this loud 6 year old brat came and sat right next to us. HELLO!!!!! Who does that? It was soooo obvious that we wanted some privacy.

In the Philippines, it is called "ulam" with English translation of "viand", but I cannot find the word 'viand' in any dictionary. Is there a rightful word for that?

In a Filipino culture, spoon and fork are used for formal dining, However, if I'm not mistaken, the Filipinos did not invent the spoon and definitely, hundred of years ago, Filipinos eat by bare hands..

Who introduced this practice of using spoon and fork to Filipinos? They say that its only the Filipinos uses the spoon and fork while eating.

Any race out there who uses spoon and fork too?

My boyfriend and I were simply sleeping on top of the covers (all of them) of his bed and his parents got pretty upset. I understand why they did - mine would be upset too - however, it is common knowledge among both our families that I'm a virgin and intend to stay that way until marriage and he's a responsible guy that wouldn't pressure me into doing anything. So, aside from the parental fear of sex, what's wrong with it? I'm by no means bashing parenting; I just want to get some perspective so I can feel out situations better next time.

I've heard that in China you cannot only lose or save face, you can give face as well. What exactly does it mean to give someone face? How does one go about giving face? What happens if I inadvertently neglect to give face?
