I'm on a selection commitee at work. Employees have submitted applications to join a volunteer program. We have to select who should be on which volunteer program. We don't know most of these people.

There's one black guy in the group. He called a Mexican-American volunteer a drug dealer because of his name. He wanted to reject another volunteer because his name sounds Jewish and they make good lawyers but should stay out of everything else. He went on and on like this making 4 or 5 comments. Some of us pointed out that he was in violation of company rules by making those statements. This guy truely believes that blacks are the only minority group in the US and all others are fair game.

How should this be dealt with? Should we report him or ignore him?

Is it just me or is it that black people in America do not have an identity. When i hear people speaking of their ancestry its like most blacks cannot relate. I know it may sound a little weird to some but its agitating ti not know about your history and where you family comes from and not just be told Africa but specifially. Can anyone relate ?

I understand some women cloak themselves and no woman is supposed to look directly at men they do not know. Would this not present a great barrier to communication? Can anyone enlighten me please?

Or did you not wan't to get involved out of fear to be bullied?

I was bullied at school for years but I have also taken part in bullying others to "protect myself" a number of times. For me it started in first grade, ugly shoes I think it was and I guess I took on the role as the victim since it continued after changing schools.

I've been thinking about this a lot over the years and been following what's been done about this at schools and then , of course, serious actions taken by kids who were bullied are in the news every now and then.

Thank you for sharing your experience, views, ideas in this matter.

Have a good day/night

I have co-workers at my job who are dark and they made some comments today about how i get treated better in society than them because i'm "light-skin" I told them that at the end of the day we're all black so skin tone doesn't matter. We argued for about 10 minutes before i just realized that you can't argue with ignorance and i just walked away. This wasn't the first time i've heard this said and it hurts because i don't feel privileged at all. I'm struggling just like everybody else! Has anybody else has this problem?

My son's friend told me the kids picked on her because she talks white. Her mom is a high school English teacher and so she has been schooled on grammar all her life. Why should having good grammar just be a white thing? I know white people that don't speak so well. This 10 year old has me beat when it comes to English. So why do some people put this label on black people that have good language skills?

Hey there, i just wanna ask all those Europeans out there, do you feel European? Does any European feel that he shares a common identity with a Scotsman, an Finn, a Greek, a Romanian, an Italian? Do you have the sense of unity( i wouldn't even dare go to brotherhood), do you take pride in the fact that you are European? Or do you simply feel that Europe ans has just went through to much against one another to actually unify in the end and form a pan-european nation.

I have been observing different races and ethnicities, and I have recently come to a conclusion. Just tell me if you think I have come to a correct conclusion.

People have always been told that they are racist when they discriminate against a group of people of a different skin color. Well I have come to a conclusion that states that it is not the color of their skin that gets them discriminated against, it is their culture and their attitudes on life. Their lifstyles, their body language, not the color of thier skin, that makes other people dislike them.

I am by no means saying that there aren't people that don't discriminate becasue of the color of your skin, but I do believe that a majority of people are being told they are racist when in fact they are not, they just don't like other peoples attitudes, and their view on life.(I can't think of an accurate word to discribe this).I feel that people should be able to critisize viewswithoutbeingcalled racist

Do you agree?

This gets on my nerves. I know Greeks and Italians who refuse to say they are white, instead saying they are Greek or Italian. Like white people don't come in a variety of colors like any other race does. I even know someone who is mixed with black and whenever someone asks him what nationality he is he says 'black and Italian'. So I'm like 'So you are black and white?' And he says, "No I'm black and Italian'. Since when does one country get to use their nationality as their race? If that's the case, I'm not white I'm German and Irish!

For example, when I was young my grandmother was very abusive somewhat mentally and somewhat physically, I grew to dislike her very much... she would tell me how I was to dress how my hair should be and what toys I was to play with if I wanted to be a lady. I of course resented what she was doing cause me to rebel against her by shaving my hair off, only wearing "boy" clothes and NEVER touching a doll.
As i got older my parents took my out of public school (age 7) I never was around a social group of females or boys for that matter so i never developed a desire to catagorize myself, i grew up developing interest in Math, Physics, computers, the list goes on, to me they were fun and it wasn't until later I started seeing the differences the media and society made for young girls and boys... girls=dolls, boys=monster trucks ... I even saw a comercial for a kids science lab set, but the only people it had playing with it were white males... Why is society so corrupt in this manner?

I am an American who has done alot of international traveling. I notice one thing for sure in every single country I have visited and lived in; White ppl from all over have a very arrogant ethnocentric attitude.
In the USA its obvious to any American, all over Africa Europeans demand 1st class status, and have forcibly put the native ppl in a 2nd class, in Australia the aborigines have been displaced, and are in a constant struggle for simple human rights on their own land. I currently live in the UAE, and I always hear white europeans say things like, 'the natives need to change their culture', and that "we (the europeans) need to be given citizenship", and all the benefits that come with it but have no respect for the ppl of this country and their way of life, and are not shy about saying it. I find it quite perplexing and crazy. Is this something that is taught from generation to generation, or is it just how you think? Please do not respond out of emotion, I really want to know
