I'm on a selection commitee at work. Employees have submitted applications to join a volunteer program. We have to select who should be on which volunteer program. We don't know most of these people.

There's one black guy in the group. He called a Mexican-American volunteer a drug dealer because of his name. He wanted to reject another volunteer because his name sounds Jewish and they make good lawyers but should stay out of everything else. He went on and on like this making 4 or 5 comments. Some of us pointed out that he was in violation of company rules by making those statements. This guy truely believes that blacks are the only minority group in the US and all others are fair game.

How should this be dealt with? Should we report him or ignore him?

Yes, you should report him. He is full of **** and a racist himself.People need to learn that these double standards are unacceptable. Anyone can be racist.

I would report him to HR. His behavior is crazy and bigoted.

He is playing the race card to his advantage. He uses the race card as a license to attack others. Report the S.O.B.
Racism is not a double standard. Whats good for the geese is good for the gander.

His behavior is unacceptable. I would tell him that in order for you not to be a party to his racial harassment, you must report him if he makes one more harassing remark. He should be written up! You might need to be a witness, though.

Do not be a snitch! Tell him that what is saying is not right voice your opinion he might not know, people are racist because they are ignorant. Racism is not defined as one race racism occurs in all races. So tell him how you feel.
