I have come to know an array of people from different backgrounds. I admire the courage shown by some to make an honest effort against the odds. We are lucky here that immigration only accepts certain "point holders" and they make a great contribution. Often Phillipinos etc have overcome massive hardships getting here, the young Sri Lankans at the local 7/11 work all night and often have tertiary qualifications and support families in poverty back home, good on them ! They make a great effort, unlike some minorities who live of their fathers money and think their above the Australian way of life. If the young lebanese hoods don't want to be here why don't they just go to Beirut ?

What's the difference between that & wearing a fake face-makeup?
Or fake hair-extensions or weave?
Or fake nails?
Or women who wear push-up bras or padded ?
Or girdles-lol?
What's the difference?

of course the division has always been there. But does it seem that lately the wedge between the variety of black cultures is being widened?

I've been seeing a lot of black folks on TV arguing among eachother. And usally its about non-sense. I just watched "hip-hop vs. america." As much needed as the debate is, The fact that is ia airing on BET can not escape my mind. Afterall, isn't BET the part of the main corporation that profits from the part of Hip-hop that they are complaining about. It seems to me that the powers that be are promoting the poorest quality, oversexed, violent, forms of the art and making it the standard. Then standing back and pointing the finger to say "look at how these people are."

Many black people rightly denounced the carricaturization of the culture. BET "bamboozled" hip-hop. That forum was like watching the mintrels blame eachother for their own carricature.

Why so many black people pointing the finger at eachother?

I was at a fashion show for the first time the other night...the Macy's Passport show in Santa Monica. Anyway, it was the first time I had seen actual models in real life..I've seen them in magazines forever, but I had never seen them in person before. I was struck by just how perfect a lot of them were in real life...no airbrushing or altared pics...I had the chance to see them in person, and they were all so beautiful. They would all look perfect in any kind of clothing you put on them...tall, slender (and muscular in the right proportions for the men)..their bodies were just perfectly proportioned, they had great skin, and their faces were gorgeous. Whenever they walked by before the show, all the volunteers just stared at them in awe. I imagine it must be impossible for most of these models to not be conceited and arrogant...it just doesn't seem fair that so few people are so attractive. What do you think of models? Would you be full of yourself if you looked like them?

Just wondering. It seems like most of he black people I either know, or meet belong on tv or something. I mean, they just cool. No offense. I hope this question isn't taken as bias. It's just my observation.

Both of my great grandparents were born and lived in Ireland, and they sent my grandmother to England when she was young, and they basically fled Ireland because of poverty.

Question, can I claim Irish citizenship then? I also have a bachelors degree, so I could contribute to the economy. Thanks!

Are these beliefs passed down, influences of our parents. Are the people around me races against blacks? I am not black. I have friends of all ethnicities, religions. Who could she be talking about? I don't see them doing anything racist, but she feels it.

I've heard people say homosexuality can be genetic. Personally I think that's one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. But is it really possible for someone to have a “gay gene”?

Hair straightening chemicals break down the bonds in spirally or tightly curled hair and damage it PERMANENTLY. It seems some black women are caught up in maintaining an image; but whose image? Please let me know what you think?

I read a poll in Shape Magazine of 1,000 African-American women aged 18 to 64 that "of the 66 percent who do relax their hair [made it super straight with chemicals], 28 percent plan to go au naturel within the year." "It's healthier" and "it's less expensive" were the top reasons cited.

Any RELEVANT and USEFUL comments and answers are appreciated. Thanks.

Oh and I'm a Black female who has cultivated locs (natural hairstyle) for the past 5 years. Made the switch when I realized I was damaging my hair and spending thousands yearly doing it!

Is anyone familiar with the genocide on the white race in the United States in particular? I'm not looking to aggravate anyone. I'd just like to see how many "alarmed" (white citizens in specific) there are. Again, I'm not trying to promote racism, I'm just curious about this matter.
