I am an English major and my opinion is that there are just as many women writing negatively about men. It works both ways. I am not a radical feminist, I do believe women deserve rights but I dislike when women purposefully point out things that have been done and try to get back at men for things in the past.
So I guess my opinion would be, to read it, try and understand where the author is coming from, and if you can't understand it then just take steps to preventing another man from feeling that way about women.
Peace :)

if people ARE writing about women in a negative way, it is important to understand why. They might have a reason that is legitimate to them, or they might be reflecting sexist or misogynist thinking.
About people who WERE writing about women that way, you have to take the whole context into account. Since English is not your first language (it was Milton, not Donne, and I suspect you did not read the whole thing, because it is very long and somewhat difficult I suggest you wait until you have had a chance to read more classical English literature (and the Bible, a major source of the Paradise Lost); that will help you understand what the poem means. Good luck!

I think women need to be empowered. Women have to be educated, be a researcher, a doctor, a dentist. They kind of have to outsmart men, considering there is so much violence against women. Everyday you hear about a woman being raped or killed, it's absolutely frightening.
My mother raised me during the 1970's Women's Movement when all women went to college and had their own careers. They didn't have to depend on a man and I think men respect that, otherwise you're at their mercy. I've always thought to myself, after reading tons of history books on wars, that if ALL men were scientists and engineers, wars would be totally eradicated. Likewise, I think women should work in the financial field, not men.

I dislike people who demean women. I don't include John Donne in that group, though. He, like Catullus before him, is simply expressing the bitterness that comes when love is lost.
Blaming the female gender or demeaning women is more like what is done in rap or hip-hop music. I dislike both, intensely.

Well, people tend to bash that things that they don't like or don't understand. It also all depends on where they live, and their time period. To me, it just shows how ignorant people are to blame or bash people that are different. Yeah you can try and change their minds, but that can't work out. Trying to force opinions on someone (good or bad), will never come out in bad results.
Show them how good women are and maybe they'll change their opinions ;D

I think that there has always been a search for the scapegoat, and women have been chosen to bear the brunt of societal ills and then not allowed to defend themselves.

i call it freedom of expression and opinion. There are plenty of thing written in negative context about men too. Not all women, nor all men are good.

It only shows their stupidity. To put anyone down no matter for what is dumb. To go against women is dumb.
