You say you are American, but unless you are a native, then your ancestors just might be German and this just might be where you get your look from.

If it's any comfort, I'm mostly of German descent and people tell me I look Swedish... you really can't win this one. After having been to Germany, I would say that even if you don't speak a word, you will probably still stand out. For instance, the first time you pass a big store window display of sex toys, your embarassment would give you away.

I am an American and I was asked by German tourists if I was from Germany.
I also had someone else approach me speaking German; she seemed perplexed when I only shrugged my shoulders. I don't speak German at all.
I think maybe if we didn't have to speak, we could pass for one of the locals.
