Why does society tell me how to act and how to think?

For example, when I was young my grandmother was very abusive somewhat mentally and somewhat physically, I grew to dislike her very much... she would tell me how I was to dress how my hair should be and what toys I was to play with if I wanted to be a lady. I of course resented what she was doing cause me to rebel against her by shaving my hair off, only wearing "boy" clothes and NEVER touching a doll.
As i got older my parents took my out of public school (age 7) I never was around a social group of females or boys for that matter so i never developed a desire to catagorize myself, i grew up developing interest in Math, Physics, computers, the list goes on, to me they were fun and it wasn't until later I started seeing the differences the media and society made for young girls and boys... girls=dolls, boys=monster trucks ... I even saw a comercial for a kids science lab set, but the only people it had playing with it were white males... Why is society so corrupt in this manner?

All societies apply rules to those living within those societies- rules that society as a whole is expected to live by, and rules that certain groups are expected to live by. I'm no sociology expert, but I suppose this is natural to some degree. However, I do wish that open-mindedness and individuality were embraced more than anything else. And I think we have the potential to do so but are held back by preoccupation with "self" (personal opinions and desires). Personally, I only abide by societal rules that I accept as fair, a part of my belief system, or necessary to protect my safety and well-being (and the safety and well-being of my loved ones).

OMG. You are so cool! Yes that is called gender role. Gender role is a set of rules and preconcieved qualites set forth by society defining a boy and a girl, man or a women. Aparently society wants the two genders to be divided and told to act completly different such as a man cant cry and a women should dress like this. We dont need that. Every show and commercial and book shows how boys and girls should act. That is rediculous! I SO AGREE with you!!! I am a boy and I dont care if I act all gay and girly (I do every day). I think society should just give up and forget the qualities that tells what a man should be and a women should be. I hate when other kids see me cry and they call me a pussy and say "a real man doesnt cry". OMG society sucks. Yep the girls=dolls and boys=monster trucks is all I see on commercials it is so sad. We need to do something about this "gender epidemic". This whole gender thing is like racism. 50 years ago the two colors were fighting because of them being separated and thinking whites are better. That might even happen with gender. It would be called "genderism". Racism is 99 percent gone and gender"ism" (sexism) is now the thing going on. Gender role needs to be stopped!

Let me start by saying, good topic. Next, math and science are the two most important subjects you will need in life along with being literate or a lexicon of a language. The two subjects are universal.

Before I start this next paragraph, this is not an attack on white people, but the powers that be; which happen to be white, but not hard working, wrench turning, blue collar whites like many are in this country.

Anyway, based on what you wrote it seems as if you grew up in a Western-Society which is great at saying we are free and equal, but brain washing in the way "White Men" are still placed on a pedestal. I have been blasted in the past on this site and others for eluding to this fact. I once asked a question speaking of how brain washed "White Women" are and I was called racist, sexiest and wrong. Look at all the signs though! You read a history book and it reflects the deeds, heroics and actions of dead white men and nothing about the women which supported these men other then a former first lady. Subconsciously that effects women. because it has/had caused women to accept a second class place in society. Women had no identity in America until the 15th Amendment and all that was/is a band-aid. Most white women by association believe they are equal to and accepted in the same way white men are, but.....that just isn't true. Remember, a black male slave has tax privileges before citizen white women did!!!!

Historically, a society can be controlled by religion, traditions, or history if you market it correctly. Television makes the job of brainwashing more easy to pull off now. I can tell you have a knowledge of self in which you have been able to read between the lines, but most are not as fortunate and don't want to be since the truth hurts. Our media/government is successful in the way they prey on the feelings and emotions of our bible-belt-god fearing public when they convince you everything is for the future of our kids and the image is that of a cute blonde-haired-blue-eyed kid looking as innocent as can be. As a god fearing society, religion has always been an excellent tool in keeping citizens in society calm, at ease, loyal, and basically under control. The Roman Empire taught the western world this.

Believe it or not, your knowledge of how things are is what makes you dangerous to society. I say dangerous in a positive way since you will be in control of your destiny. Stay on course because your future looks bright.

Sorry about your grandmother, though.
I have no idea why society has decided how males and females are different.
Maybe because most boys like monster trucks more than girls.
Same with the commercial.
Maybe they were aiming to sell the science lab set to the white males.
I am a girl, and I have owned a few of those sets myself.
You sound very smart!
Just keep on going like you have, and don't stop to wonder what society thinks.
