I've just read an article by Carolyn Jessop who was born into a family of polygamists in the Church of the Fundamentalist Latter-Day Saints (FLDS). She was married, age 18, to a 50 year old Mormon who already had 3 wives (ending up with 13, and over 100 children). After 15 years she escaped with all her children and gained legal custody of them.

Acording to this group's doctrine, a man must have multiple wives if he wants to be a god in heaven and end up with his own planet. His many wives must be submissive to this arrangement if they are to be resurrected. I understand this is precisely what the founding fathers of the Mormons taught, so this group is actually being true to those foundational doctrines.

'Regular' Mormons (mainstream ones) go by the law of the land and do not practice polygamy, which is very good. I just want to know what they say about the FLDS and the doctrinal anomaly this throws up. Do the FLDS stick to true Mormon doctrine here?

As a 49 year year old it bring me hope for the future, and should bring hope to all ladies in their middle years. Men are getting more, how can I put it? and what word can I use energy. A 91 year old lady in Scotland, got for her Christmas from her 92 year old husband, the wonderful gift of a pair of crotchless panties.

isn't it more selfish to expect someone to live under debilitating mental conditions just so YOU, as a society, as the family and friends of loved ones, don't have to deal with the consequences of them killing themselves? it is wrong to put the blame of guilt on a suicidal person, each person's life is their own to live, mess up, or, if the situation calls for it, end, in the way that they desire- and I disagree with anyone- especially those don't lift a single finger to help- who claim it's wrong either regiously or morally. it might be both, but it's still your inalienable choice to make, and that fact should never by clouded by politics, especially at the expense of potential respite. it's a load of political bull, people, open your eyes. you don't have to cave to religious or societal pressures telling you you have to do something so inherently your own decision as live your life.

Since there is no proof a god exists, why believe in one?

If you answer: Because there is no proof that one does NOT exist.

Consider: If I told you that there was a race of pink unicorns living on the dark side of the moon, you would disregard the idea as fake and me as a nutjob if I had failed to provide proof. However, would using the argument "because there is no proof that these pink unicorns do NOT exist, they are real" change your mind or even make any logical sense?

For another example, take Greek mythology. There is no proof that Zeus does not, so why dismiss him as a myth?

Please note: This is about believing in a god. Period. This in no way has anything to do with any one particular religion as all are partially proven wrong by Science and thus invalidates the rest.

It explicity says it didnt come for peace but the sword

Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law--a man's enemies will be the members of his own household.' Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

Kind of going off what KHNBS1 said...does a couple that has sex before marriage have to get married? Because I don't find anything that would say that is the case. Many Christian websites (gotquestions.org, christiansanswers.net) don't mention anything about having to get married, even when a child is concieved.
