You mean Christian women as a whole, because the beliefs on the roles of husbands and wives are the same as in other churches. Mutual love, honor, respect, etc.

The only major differences are the lower divorce rate, lower spousal abuse rate, and the belief that you can be with your partner for time and all eternity, not just until death.

It is Christ that commands these things, not just some church. The first 10 chapters of 1st Corinthians should give you a good read on what Mormon women are called to do.

I have been a Mormon for 14 years and I have never heard anyone in the church command me to obey my husband.

I respect his priesthood, and his position as head of the household, but I have covenanted only to "obey" him "in righteousness". In other words, should he abuse his position and order me to do something which I felt was wrong, I would not do it. But when it comes down to the bottom line of making big decisions, if we reach an impasse he has the final word. Personally I like things that way. I don't want the responsibility. And someone has to do it.

I often joke that my husband makes the big decisions, and I make the little decisions. So he decides whether Britain should adopt the Euro, or whether immigration should be controlled, and I decide which school the kids go to and whether we buy a new car.

First of all, so many people have this misconception of the role of women in the Church being one of a less-important person, a second-class citizen of sorts. That's not at all the case. Women are treated like royalty -- because being daughters of God, our King, we ARE royalty.

People hear the word "obey" and think of someone being mistreated, disrespected, etc. We are commanded to obey the Lord because He loves us, & therefore every commandment that He gives is one for our own benefit and happiness. I will gladly obey someone when I know they won't ever steer me toward anything but goodness and joy! I learned to obey my parents as a child for that reason, and it applies to my Heavenly Father even more.

That said, I'm not married yet, but I'll answer as though I am: I will love, honor, and "obey" my husband as long as he loves, honors, and obeys the Lord. If he does that, I know I will always be treated with love and respect, revered for my status as a woman. I have no reason to feel bitter, cheapened, worth less than anyone else, or cheated of any happiness as long as I marry someone who feels as strongly about the gospel as I do and does his best to live what he knows is true (which I will). Together we'll make our choices -- I still get to be an individual and have my say, but I will also respect my husband's priesthood authority when it comes to the big decisions. As a married couple, we're in it together.

So yes. I will "obey" my husband, as long as he remains righteous and committed to doing what's right. I'll follow his counsel, because I trust him. And I know he'll allow me the respect and privileges that I deserve as I raise our children with him. I've had so many fantastic examples of the happiness that's possible in marriage that I look forward to it a lot! : ]

What makes you think that is what the church commands. I have never heard that and i have been a member all my life. Honestly as much as you want us to say...YES we are treated horrible and we have to obey whatever the men tell us.....your not going to get because its not true.

The church doesn't "command" this. Contrary to the notions of the uninformed, LDS woman are created equal in the sight of God and LDS men are counseled to be "equally yoked" with their spouse.
