I have told my little girl Santa is pretend - just in the same way Dora the explorer, Winnie the Pooh etc are also pretend.

My reason for doing this is that I want her to always know that I am truthful with her. Inevitably she will find out it is all just a charade and perhaps a part of her will lose trust in me for carrying on that lie. I dont be a spoil sport and I play along etc but I let her know it is just a game.

I am Christian and do not then want her to see Jesus and Santa as both something they believed in but which turned out to be make believe. (yes, atheists insert your snide comment here)

Why do some people make such a big deal of it, as if I am a cruel and mean parent?

why

Just wanted to share- they're having an exhibit in a public museum in a neighboring town to here. The artist is smart enough to understand that he is a fantasy painter- so its not some Creationist museum garbage.

As for my question-

Did Noah ride a Ford or a Chevy Triceratops?

Ladies I'm pretty sure we've all been exposed this time of year to our friend "Mistletoe", whether being cornered at work, or at a relatives house or at the infamous office party, what are the rules? How does one KISS, is it just a peck on the cheek, a peck on the lips, or my favorite the "tongue salsa", etc.. Please share your ideas and thoughts. Happy Holidays!

The Columbine shooters shot a girl just saying she was a Christian. The shooter in Colorado recently opened fire on church people. Maybe the bible was correct. Why are these athesits filled with such hate?

It was a show where you had to guess the identity of some one as a mystery guest. I think it had Kitty Carlisle on it too as a regular and sometimes George Gobel?

"Man, what's with you, crying over Titanic?"

Not particularly far from me, a particularly tacky manger scene was posted on public property....to which most of the public rolled their eyes.

A Wiccan local to the area was one of many people who complained about the thing (You have to understand, this street, it's like decked out in lights and stuff, and this manger scene looks like crap, it's all unfinished wood and plexiglass...) and the mayor invited her to put up a pentacle...which she did.

Now, the pentacle is easily as tacky as the manger scene, and the people of Olean were basically going about their business. Some people were so offended that they placed smaller mangers underneath the pentacle (which is also tacky.)

But, last night, some idiot in a pick-up truck backed over the pentacle.

I'm just trying to understand how anyone would willfully destroy property. What point does it prove? That people who like mangers are bullies?

the guy is a little misinformed and ignorant of facts....and still stands by his statement....a little scary.

Bush gained the Republican nomination because he professed to be a born-again....the ultra-religious, right wing of the party, didn't care about his lack of intellect or lack of experience...just about his religion...now look at the mess we are in.

It appears we are heading down this same slippery slope with Huckabee.....is anyone else concerned that he may just gain the nomination because of his religion...and not because of his experience/laurels, etc...?

If it is so important to fundamentalist Christians to elect one of their own...could they at least find an intelligent, well-educated and well spoken one to represent and lead our country.

When a candidate's religion trumps his intellect where does this leave the country? Your thoughts?

OK, I'm just having a thought (it doesn't happen often) and I would like some feedback from those who care to contemplate:

It's fairly obvious that most people are afraid of death. Many find consolation in the idea of an after-life. But the atheist usually has no such consolation.

Many people also find consolation that they will be remembered by posterity by having their names remembered. They write books, and donate buildings at colleges to memorialize themselves.

Now, usually, it's the better educated that tend to write books and have enough money to donate buildings.

Could ONE OF the reasons that atheists tend to be better educated than believers, be that they are more likely to find consolation by being remembered after their deaths by others because of their life's works?

(Sorry, I know that's a bit confusing... it's a thought in progress).

Thanks in advance.
