GWLECH, Please tell me you are kidding. Some of these answers here are completely infuriating. First, Catholic does mean universal!!!! So the question should really be are Christians Catholic!!? I am a brand new Christian Catholic, and throughout my 44 years on this earth, I have worshipped in a baptist church, a presbyterian church, a non denominational church, a methodist, a united church of christ church, and also a catholic church. I am living proof that the catholic church is by far the most Christian I have ever worshipped in. The churches main and utmost focus is Christ. They want all who attend to be true disciples of Christ, that is their primary mission. The Pope is a direct line from St Peter, and the original apostles are the one who started the Catholic/Christian faith, therefore, those of you who question, Catholics truly are the very first christians. You can look this up in any bible and follow the history of the catholic church. The Bishops, priests, and so forth are absolute scholars of the christian faith and bible. They have studied it inside and out extensively and try to live by the word of God. There is no question to the validity of the catholic faith. Since I am a newly confirmed Catholic, I can say without a doubt, that I am the most fullfilled christian now that I have found the church. They truly teach about forgiveness, helping those in need, faith, and everything that Christ has ever stood for and preached about. How can anyone doubt the sincerity and belief of catholics. We are christians by any means of the word and we ARE true disciples of Christ. What more can anyone ask for?

I think the majority of Roman Catholics are non-Christian in the sense that they do not practice the alleged philosophy of Jesus of Nazareth. It's similar to being born a descendant of the Vikings which - no matter which way you slice it - does NOT make me a Viking. Except for converting to a religion, the overwhelming majority of Catholics, Protestants, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Agnostics, Atheists, etc. are simply born and RAISED into the faith or non-faith. It is only through the practice of illogical dogma that a person can rightly call themselves a Christian. At least, that's the way I see it...

as an ex Roman Catholic

absolutely

edit: that's crap that catholics only worship the Pope and Mary
you clearly didnt go to Catholic school. I did and I can tell you that everytime we had prayers, we bowed our heads whenever Jesus was mentioned - the same courtesy wasnt shown for Mary

I can't believe how ignorant some people can be....of course Catholics were taught the teachings of Jesus! The whole religion centres around Jesus! At least it did when I went to school and mass anyway.

not something. A catholic is already a christian so that could be somewhat redundant for somebody to call themselves a Christian Catholic. Catholic is a shorter thank you to assert Roman Catholic. extremely, there is not any distinction, the two are roman catholic and the two are christian,

Many Christians will be rejected by Jesus Christ according to Matthew 7:21-23.

I love how all these zealots no matter how well meaning decide upon themselves who is "saved" and who is not. Lets leave that to God one the day of judgement please. I know it is no ones intent to judge and it is based in love I hope but t still comes across to me as passing judgment on who is christian and who is not. The church exsisteted before the bibleas did many of the traditions of the catholic church.

I'm Roman Catholic.

I believe in Jesus Christ as my only Savior and I worship and follow Him. That makes me Christian. Really Christian.

As with all churches...some are...some are not.

The be a "Christian" one has to enter into (accept) the covenant of the New Testament for forgiveness of sin and salvation of the eternal soul thru Jesus, Son of the one true God. This must be done with a sincere and repentant heart.

GW,
They were NOT the first Christians (The Apostles were). Catholics certainly are considered to be Christians. I do not believe everything that many of them do but that does not mean that I do not consider them to be Christians also. Have a great week.
Thanks,
Eds

Yes. We believe in Jesus as the Christ and we follow Him to the best of our ability. That means we're Christian.
