The Columbine shooters shot a girl just saying she was a Christian. The shooter in Colorado recently opened fire on church people. Maybe the bible was correct. Why are these athesits filled with such hate?

Because they are the devil's children.

JOHN 8

The Children of the Devil
42Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and now am here. I have not come on my own; but he sent me. 43Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. 44You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. 45Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me! 46Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don't you believe me? 47He who belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God."

The Devil only comes to Kill, Steal, and Destroy.

John 10:10 (NIV) Bible
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

I BELIEVE THAT HE WAS A CHRISTIAN WHO FALTERED IN HIS FAITH. HE WAS DEALING WITH HIS OWN DEMONS AND HE LEFT THE DOOR OPEN TO THE DEVIL AND HIS SCHEMES. IT CAN HAPPEN TO ANYONE WHO DOESN'T FOLLOW GOD'S COMMANDMENTS AND KNOW HIS WORD.
-It also could have been that the guy was mentally ill or was Bipolar Manic Depressive. I believe he could have been helped when they seen the signs before hand. His room mate knew that he was going through changes but he didn't think to say anything to anyone about it. I'm not saying that it was his fault. I'm just saying that it was obvious that the guy was reaching out. He played a couple of songs that were inappropriate at the Church gathering. Everyone knew because they described how odd it was for him to have played those types of songs.
I feel sorry for him and all we can do is pray for him and all those people whose lives were taken on that horrible day.

Well, neither was Christian as the reports say. But, in both cases severely disturbed people who should have been noticed early on. Just because someone goes to a certain school or church does not mean they are Christian-no more that being black makes you a criminal, or being from the Middle East makes you a terrorist.
The guy in Colorado was supposedly raised in a Charismatic Christian home, and from the same church as Ted Haggard. This is why it is so important for the Christian community to recognize these pseudo-Christian cults are dangerous. Many people want to go to these feel good happy, happy churches. They are not really Christian.

Oh Good Grief. Christianity is the most accepted religion in this country. Of course the reports would glorify that. Those shootings had nothing to do with Christianity, except the part where it talks about villianizing people. I believe the first answerer, the one you gave a negative vote to, was correct. Open your eyes and quit playing into that stereotype. You're just trying to get a reaction.

Well, there really isn't much legitimacy in the Columbine claim, so I can't really comment on that. However, I'll still attempt to place "my take" on this issue:

I'd say it's a response to establishment or bureaucracies. You could, effectively, draw similar correlations to shootings of government officials. Many of these shooters derive their oppression from these institutions and look to contrast the emptiness and "hate" that they receive (or think they receive) against the comfort and optimism that others receive. So, in essence, it becomes less of a religious issue and more of a psychological issue.

The Columbine story about the girl is just a myth... did not happen that way.... atheism had nothing to do with the recent Colorado shootings... just another mentally deranged nut who should have been institutionalized instead of running around on the streets...he thought he had been misstreated by those people and was taking revenge.

Actually, the most recent shooter was not atheist...he is from a fundamentalist Christian home and was home-schooled...he had even applied for admission to this missionary project where he shot the first person.

My guess is that people direct their anger at fundamentalists because of their hypocrisy...they espouse one thing, but live a very different way...they push their views and ideas on others....and discount any other ideas as being wrong...often without discussion or debate.

Most Christians say if you do not believe as they do, that you are going to hell, that you are not a good person, etc....when a person hears this over and over again, it could drive an unstable person to commit terrible acts of violence.

But, twist this question around a little...why do so many Christians hate non-Christians? Look at the shootings at abortion clinics and gay bars...all by people that call themselves Christians...is this what God has commanded?

1: The story of the Columbine girl being shot for claiming to be a Christian was false...a typically made-up martyr story.
2: The Columbine shooters weren't atheists, not did they do what they did because they were atheists. One was a sociopath, the other a suicidal follower.
3: The shooter in Colorado was a Christian. His exact motive remains unknown, though it is likely he suffered from mental illness.

You fundies will say anything to make yourself into martyrs...especially when you're not.

Jesus told His followers that because He was hated, they would be as well.

Most Christians know and accept this and consider it all for joy.

Also, the kid in the Colorado shootings had been thrown out of YWAM (Youth With A Mission) and went back there to "get even." He might have claimed to be a Christian, but his actions proved otherwise.

god bless!

The Colorado shooter came from a "very, very religious" family, according to family friends. As for the Columbine "she said yes" story, it just wasn't true.

Even Christians are sinners. Christians are supposed to try and emulate Christ like attitudes and mores, but since we are human we can not ever match up. The key is that we repent when we are wrong. Remember, Christians don't need Christ, we already have him. The sinners are the ones that Jesus came for.

Christianity is so pervasive that to say someone is a Christian is to say practically nothing. President Obama claims to be a Christian, as do the Westboro bunch.
