I have a troop of 7 girls whose ages range from 8 to 10. They enjoy the activities I set up and the meetings but they don't listen when trying to explain an activity or inform them of what is going on during a meeting. My co-leader and I have sat them down and talked with them about this chit chat and not listening cause it causes delays in getting things done but the day we did this towards the end of the meeting they were back to their talkative old selves. Anyone got any ideas on how to keep them quiet while we are trying to explain things?

the book of luke makes reference to jesus growing in knowledge. but how can this be? if jesus is god and god is all-knowing, how can an omniscient being learn more than what it already knows?

i heard of a religion that believes that jesus is the son of the devil, not god. and that tricking man into believing in him is turning people away from god.

to get back to god we must get rid of all crucifixes, because they are the sign of the devil.

is this true?

We spend the earnings of our life, knowledge, and intelligence for procuring, possessing and using the powers and strengths of the material world in the forms of money, machines, material goods and kindness of the material man only; and strive and work hard for such purpose and reason only.

Where from; do we get the powers and strengths of "THAT "which gives life, knowledge, and intelligence to ourselves for spending them the way we do; with what; and how is it that we get " THE THAT; AND THE POWERS AND STRNGTHS OF THE THAT" for enabling and empowering ourselves to live life with knowledge and intelligence.

What is "THE THAT AND THE POWERS AND STRENGTHS OF THE THAT". Without this THE THAT AND THE POWERS AND STRENGTH S OF THIS THE THAT we could otherwise be trees or animals.

Do we agree that something is missing in our life's; and that something only is the cause of all our sufferrings, sorrows, pains, illnessess of body, mind and wealth of our selves and the evils that V face

I've noticed at work (and my personal life) that people tend to be more sensitve and lose their tempers quicker lately. A lot say it is the stress of the upcoming holidays, I say sit back relax and look forward to them! Some say it's the lack of sunlight, the "bad" weather, and not having a long weekend in November (for us Canadians that is).
I love Christmas and the sparkly, fluffy snow that comes at this time of the year, but even I find I'm ready for a break from people at work!
Why do you think people are so quick to anger this time of the year?

Yahoo is not using common sense on this one, unless those in charge enjoy the bashing of people with religious and spiritual orientations.

The bible says man has caused man injury (Ecc.8:9)Jer.10:23 says man cant direct his step. If the bible clearly says man cannot rule man, why do as a Christian vote for another man?

Unbelievers say that the idea of God came from man. So then it would be simple. But with the Trinity and the idea about how there is a 3-in-1 God isn't simple. And since it isn't simple, they --unbelievers -- don't believe because they can't grasp it. Yet if they could, then they would say that it was from man. So just wondering, what do you guys think? This is to both Christians and un-Christians alike.

I have seen so many times on YA - things like 'if Christians actually followed Jesus' teachings would non-Christians respect them more'......or 'All muslims are terrorists'.....etc etc

Do you judge people by one person's standards or actions?

i.e. if one 'Christian' does it - they all do it

I feel my coming out is imminent. It's reached a point where my mother, who is a hardcore southern baptist, pretty much knows I am not an atheist and I can tell she is pissed. I also have a cousin and uncle who are preachers. She and I will be having a discussion in a few days if not today, and I don't know what to say other than "I don't believe in any gods" or to ask her "what's so special about YOUR god?"

Please help me argue or share your experience or whatever you can to help me.

Here is a common analogy that still gets used:

"I do not need proof of God anymore then I need proof of air.I can't see either and yet know that both exist"

This analogy is used by replacing "air" with virtually anything from the human brain to a blackhole. These analogy's are so useless since they always rely on two things that fail.
1.both can't be seen thus can't be proved
2.one exists thus the other must as well

The reason these two examples fail is because much of what is used in these kind of analogy's can be proved and/or seen whilst God can not be.These analogy's also can be used to argue for any God or any other invisble force no matter how obviously made up might be (example: tooth fairy).

So, why oh why are these analogy's still used? Are there still people out there who think these analogy's actually work at making a point other then that the person trying to make the point has nothing better to go on?
