“Your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you." (Genesis 3:16)

“Adam was formed first, then Eve.” (1 Timothy 2:13)

“Let your women keep silent in the churches, for they are not permitted to speak; but they are to be submissive, as the law also says. And if they want to learn something, let them ask their own husbands at home; for it is shameful for women to speak in church.”( Corinthians 14:34-35)

“Let a woman learn in silence with all submission. And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence.” (1 Timothy 2:11-12)

Evidently, god does not think very highly of women. Is god misogynistic? Or is it more likely that Yahweh is simply the reification of ancient patriarchal prejudice?

If you are a Christian woman, do you think this is fair?

How come atheists enjoy gingerbread cookies and sugarplums at Christmas when they don’t believe in Jesus? Isn’t this hypocritical.

Celsus, a 2nd century Greek philosopher, accused Jesus of having "invented his birth from a virgin," and upbraids Jesus with being "born in a certain Jewish village, of a poor woman of the country, who gained her subsistence by spinning, and who was turned out of doors by her husband, a carpenter by trade, because she was convicted of adultery; that after being driven away by her husband, and wandering about for a time, she disgracefully gave birth to Jesus, an illegitimate child" Celsus wrote that the father was "a certain soldier named Panthera (sometimes known as Pandira)." After his birth, Celsus writes that Jesus "having hired himself out as a servant in Egypt on account of his poverty, and having there acquired some miraculous powers, on which the Egyptians greatly pride themselves, returned to his own country, highly elated on account of them, and by means of these proclaimed himself a God."

This view is further supported by Talmudic tradition, which tells of a man named Ben-Stada - meaning "Son of Pandira". He was "on account of his poverty was hired out to go to Egypt; that while there he acquired certain (magical) powers which Egyptians pride themselves on possessing." According to the Talmud, Ben-Stada learned magic in Egypt and performed his miracles by means of it.

I know people have to do their jobs, but why do they always ring when I'm having my evening meal. I don't want to be rude to them, so I just tell them I'm going to hang-up.

How do you deal with them?

I am going to a Christmas party this Saturday and need to bring a gift good for a man or woman in the $20 to $25 range. I don't really want to put a whole lot of thought or time into this so I was thinking a gag gift (with gift reciept) would be the best. So what would be some good ideas?

This is of course, the story of Mary & Martha......sisters of Lazarus.

I'm leading my Sunday school class this week......and this is the topic at hand. We'll be talking about conflicts in our families.....as well as in the church......and what we can do to resolve them.

My question is:

Who are you more like.......Martha or Mary?
Are you a neat freak (like Martha)......or are you more laid-back (like Mary)?

Guys are welcome to answer this too........we can be neat freaks as well.

Thanks,

Primo

I'm shopping for a pole this year, which will be used as a bridge to my non-Christmas celebrating friends. A good bridge in your view?

As soon as she had finished convent school, a bright young girl named Lena shook the dust of Ireland off her shoes and made her way to New York where before long, she became a successful performer in show business. Eventually she returned to her home town for a visit and on a Saturday night went to confession in the church, which she had always attended as a child. In the confessional Father Sullivan recognized her and began asking her about her work. She explained that she was an acrobatic dancer, and he wanted to know what that meant. She said she would be happy to show him the kind of thing she did on stage. She stepped out of the confessional and within sight of Father Sullivan, she went into a series of cartwheels, leaping splits, handsprings and backflips. Kneeling near the confessional, waiting their turn, were two middle-aged ladies. They witnessed Lena's acrobatics with wide eyes, and one said to the other: "Will you just look at the penance Father Sullivan is givin' out this night, and me without me bloomers on!"

I don't want to lie but I don't want to hurt her feelings either. I definitely don't want to get in the middle of a lot of drama over it. If I believe a woman is fat, how do I answer them honestly without causing a problem? I've found that even if they say they won't get mad if I'm honest doesn't help. They often will get mad anyway. My current solution is to just avoid answering question like that. I also worry about stirring up some kind of eating disorder. I'm looking for some ideas, please help.

Do you know how many? What country do they work in? Do you know any of their names? From a Biblical standpoint, do you know their back ground? Has any of them ever given a testimony before your church or preached at your church? Have you ever met any of the missionaries that your church supports before? Do they inform your church what they are doing in the field? If so, how often? Or, does someone out of your church tell you who you are going to support?

I just tried to answer a ladies question about her Husband being one and before I do I like to read the responses so that I don't reply with old news! I was wondering what it is, I'm a Christian and so is my wife. Is this something I might be interested in? I'm more of a technical guy then a carpenter, but I take it that has nothing to do with it ever though I can't seem to shake that feeling off! The eastern star, that's for the wives of Masons? Is this a Strict Baptist branch of Christianity? Could anyone with real insight share some with me, thank you!
