...or is it just more rubbish?

QUOTE Socrates used this claim of wisdom as the basis of his moral exhortation. Accordingly, he claimed that the chief goodness consists in the caring of the soul concerned with moral truth and moral understanding, that "wealth does not bring goodness, but goodness brings wealth and every other blessing, both to the individual and to the state", and that "life without examination is not worth living". It is with this in mind that the Socratic Method is employed.END QUOTE

Is life without dialog truly really not worth living?

Lately some friends of the family have passed away, and my grandparents have gotten to the point where I know they're scared of dying. They won't tell me that, but they keep hinting at it. I want to comfort them, but I have no clue what to even say...

Anyways, it has got me thinking. What actually happens after one dies? What is your opinion...what do you think happens?

Thank you :)

Mitt Romney doesn't like being compared to the Kingston Clan...

And I'm sure it wouldn't be politically expediant if Mike Huckabee were associated with the Westboro Baptist Church...

How about associating George Bush with the very church that prays in tongues over a cardboard cutout in his image:

So what makes it ok for these hypocrites to judge my morality when they haven't even met me?

and why do you believe them?

if stephen king told you his books were true would you believe him too?

when considering that we are really only talking about words printed on paper and bound together as a "book" there is no real difference between the bible and ANY other book that has EVER been printed.

if your answer to this is a quote from the bible, then you are proving to me that you really aren't listening

It seems like every time I check in here, there are numerous questions from so-called christians, wanting to know why it is that Atheist's think or feel or believe the way that we do.

I don't get it.
Why in the world do you christians even care?

I could understand if you were trying to convert all of us "heathen atheists" and save us from the pits of hell, but every single time I see a post from a christian regarding Atheists, they are being antagonistic, hostile, and usually just downright rude! Obviously THAT kind of behaviour isn't going to convince any of us godless atheists to change our ways!
(Who would want to hang out with a bunch of intolerant christian jerks, like the ones I always seem to run across?)

So, do tell.....why are so many of you "christians" overly obsessed with the behavior and motives of Atheists?

Cheers,

I just moved out to Orange County, and I was wondering if anyone knew of good neighborhoods that are all decked out in Christmas lights. I don't mind having to park somewhere and just walking around the streets. I actually prefer to walk around and admire the decorations.

Thanks!

As soon as she had finished convent school, a bright young girl named Lena shook the dust of Ireland off her shoes and made her way to New York where before long, she became a successful performer in show business. Eventually she returned to her home town for a visit and on a Saturday night went to confession in the church, which she had always attended as a child. In the confessional Father Sullivan recognized her and began asking her about her work. She explained that she was an acrobatic dancer, and he wanted to know what that meant. She said she would be happy to show him the kind of thing she did on stage. She stepped out of the confessional and within sight of Father Sullivan, she went into a series of cartwheels, leaping splits, handsprings and backflips. Kneeling near the confessional, waiting their turn, were two middle-aged ladies. They witnessed Lena's acrobatics with wide eyes, and one said to the other: "Will you just look at the penance Father Sullivan is givin' out this night, and me without me bloomers on!"

QUOTE Aristotle taught that virtue has to do with the proper function of a thing. An eye is only a good eye in so much as it can see, because the proper function of an eye is sight. Aristotle reasoned that man must have a function uncommon to anything else, and that this function must be an activity of the soul. Aristotle identified the best activity of the soul as eudaimonia: a happiness or joy that pervades the good life. Aristotle taught that to achieve the good life, one must live a balanced life and avoid excess. This balance, he taught, varies among different persons and situations, and exists as a golden mean between two vices - one an excess and one a deficiency. END QUOTE

What is the function that man must have that is uncommon?

For those of you who are saved Christians, who follow the Bible and Jesus, please help me out with this.
My sister started going to this church recently and wants me to go with her.
I was looking through their website, and some of the things they say worry me a little bit.
Is it just me, or does their statement of philosophy/membership criteria seem a bit sketchy?
Thanks

A) An idea with good intentions that went wrong
B) A great idea we all should embrace
C) A terrible idea to begin with

Liberation Theology began by the Catholic church in Latin American countries. It was fueled by theories like Maslow's Hierarchy of needs and initially the idea was "feed and clothe the poor, then preach the gospel to them."

After a while it became a drive for political activism and focused on painting Christ as the great liberator of the poor. It rejected capitalism and linked Christianity with socialism.

I do kinda giggle to myself after they hang up on me and wish that I could be there to hear them to complain about having a nuclar plant put in theyre neighborhood after they have refused to take the survey to see how they feel. We do surveys for several companys to find out what you want, dont want ,like dont like ect. it is basically like casting your vote. Hang up if you want I really dont mind I make my money either way, just dont complain about your electric company,Wal-mart, Pizza Hut, your local news paper ect ect...

Sounds pretty silly doesn't it.

Almost as silly as stating that because someone doesn't believe in God, there is nothing to stop them from committing rapes and murders.
