It means that as a sinner you are completely out of harmony with the Kingdom of God and that you have a perverse nature - like the nature of the serpent. That is why Jesus likened Himself to a serpent on a pole (read John's Gospel, chapter 3) - representing Himself as the One who would take the sin nature upon Himself - bear it away through death on the cross - and then be raised into newness of life by the resurrection from the dead.
Jesus bore your evil nature, and all its consequences on the cross. If you believe in Him, He will give you the new resurrection nature He now possesses, and make you into a child of God, fit for the Kingdom of Heaven.
It is a gift. You can only humble yourself and ask God, in the name of Jesus, to give you this gift - the gift of eternal life, through faith in Christ.

Actually if you do a little research on "born again" and take it back to the original Greek and Hebrew that the original manuscripts are in you get a different picture. It means to be born from above. Simply meaning you must come through this flesh age, born of woman (think of the bag of water you arrive in), to live and die and return to the spiritual dimension. It has nothing to do with baptism. I mean if you become a Christian on Monday and die on Wednesday before you have a chance to be baptised you are still saved. To think otherwise is just stupid. God is fair.

Actually the verse says, "To enter the Kingdom you need to
be born again. The term "Born Again" refers to a gentile
converting to Judaism by learning Torah, being circumcized
if a man & going through a Mikvah ( which is an immersion
bath of fresh running water.) When the person comes out of
the water they are born again as a Jew.
A believer in Yeshua the Messiah gets born again by
accepting Yeshua as their Messiah & being immersed in
water (baptised) The Torah gets written on their hearts by
the Spirit of YHWH(God) and they are considered to be
circumzised in the heart & Born again as a believer into the
Kingdom of YHWH.

An equally puzzling statement:
John 12:24. Amen, amen, I say to you, unless the grain of wheat falling into the ground die,
12:25. Itself remaineth alone. But if it die it bringeth forth much fruit. ...

I do believe He spoke of His own death, but it is beyond our understanding when He speaks this way, unless it happens in a future time, and we connect the dots to the question we once had regarding these cryptic things.

I think some things become more clear as we live, love and grow.

To give your heart to God the Father and Jesus Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Meaning you have committed all your sins to God and with this you will become a new person.

To be Baptized symbolizes a washing away of all of your sins.

You're refferring to John 3:3-7: "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, You must be born again...."

new birth, being born again, is an act of God whereby eternal life is imparted to the person who believes. john 1:12,13 indicates that "born again" also carries the idea "to become children of God" through trust in the name of Jesus Christ.

To be reincarnated until you learn all of life's lessons, most likely. But since reincarnation is no longer a tenent of Christianity (since the year 553) I'll bet people will, of course, tell me I'm wrong, LOL.

since God is bound by LEGALITIES concerning the fall of man ...he had to create a way to reverse what had happend...and this plan would unfold hundreds of years later...the results of this "fall from Grace" is evident! just look around...no peace. deformed bodies, hunger etc etc...in other words...not only earth but also man has become corrupt...in fact...death became the result in many form...so the term reborn was coined to help you understand what is happening with this plan...look at it like its a custody battle in divorce court....its up to the child now to decide who he wants....granted, the body cant be reborn...it is doomed and to dust it will return...so it is the inward man that i am refering too...your spirit!!!! with out God, you are spiritually dead....remember..legalities!...but once...reunited with him...you are attached to the one who gives life...hence the meaning...reborn....
