I like this question, it implies that our perceptions are what hurt us, & in fact it is the only thing that can hurt us on a real level. We have a choice in how we view events, it is we who give them their meaning. Why do we do it? I think for the most part just ignorance to Truth & addiction to chaos. Many people do not feel alive unless they are experiencing overwhelming negative emotional response. It is not their fault in one sense, they sleep, yet on another level they choose. Waking up to realize we have a choice in perception & response is the first steps to Enlightenment. Blessings.

I think that liking doesn't have much to do with it. It implies a desire to be ignorant, for perceptions require an ability to see from our own stand point, our own view, and a liking of hurting one's self is very odd, though not unheard of. I think that what you may mean is that why are we ignorant, or, why do we suffer so. Our perception says so much about us. And I perceive that one's perceptions describe one's world.
I think that one's individual evolution, emotionally, intellectually, spiritually, and the resulting thought and action that follows, may deliver pain and suffering to our door, yet perceptions may be changed, and all one has to do is choose another way, direction, thought. In living consciously, with an awareness of being a conscious being, we have greater perspective, and therefore greater perception. Have you ever read any of Carlos Castaneda's books.......he is the master of the art of perception? Peace, friend.

The hurt is not from the perceptins themselves, rather, the hurt is from our responce to those perceptions. Knowledge in and of itself, it not a bad thing. How we act or handle the knowledge that we have acquired will be the thing that determines whether or not we get hurt in the end of things.

Sometimes, I believe, we go down a path where we choose to believe things are true, even though deep down we know we are deluding ourselves. Our will to believe these delusions is so strong that we refuse to believe that reality could be another way, even a way that causes us pain and suffering.
The tragedy is, this pain and suffering is the process by which we learn and mature. We don't want to learn and mature, because it causes pain, so we postpone it and cause ourselves further pain.

Habit, or to see if we can still feel, or because we see value in suffering, or because we know not what we do.
But then again 'hurt' is a perception.

That's why I'm trying to not have a perception. My eyes and brain always screw things up.

Cause we may "Never" Reach where our "Own" love ones try to help us though we rather teach our own pattern but sometimes our pattern is not enough and "We ALL" in every Country that sits on oceans need some "support".

It's called an 'attachment.' Humans are capable of becoming attached to the most insane beliefs and perceptions. Fear and attachment go together. Once we are conditioned to fear, it is easy to become attached to what ameliorates that feeling, even if it is harmful.

Because the truth hurts, and if we didn't then we'd continue to walk blindly through our fantasies, getting further and further detached from reality.

Learning all the time. :-)
We may think we have things figured out for a certain situation & set of circumstances (I find); but then things change; they're no longer suited, and learning & adaptation begin again.
Makes life interesting. :-)
No pain, no gain.
Learning all the time.
