Lately some friends of the family have passed away, and my grandparents have gotten to the point where I know they're scared of dying. They won't tell me that, but they keep hinting at it. I want to comfort them, but I have no clue what to even say...

Anyways, it has got me thinking. What actually happens after one dies? What is your opinion...what do you think happens?

Thank you :)

It's likely that you are misreading the signals from your grandparents. They may just be trying to prepare you for their mortality. I'm 52 and for the past two years I've contemplated dying. It's not hard to look back from here and say "I could die today and I've had a great life." It's not about money in the end. It's about that which we love and care about. I'm sure your grandparents, my age or older, have considered things like this.

I'm impressed with your sensitivity! Most young people wouldn't think to ask, help, or bother themselves in the least.

I've read a lot over the years. One thing that stands out on this subject is "What I Believe" by Tolstoy. Don't worry, it's not long like "War and Peace" but it's an analytical look at life, death and the hereafter. You can read it in an hour or so.

I wish you, and your grandparents well.

According to Christians which I am, if you are saved by the blood of Jesus Christ when you die you go to heaven to be with him and your soul lives on forever ( eternity). But those that don't know or believe in him will be judged and they will be in a different place than heaven. That place is called hell.

Death is the wages for sin. If you are saved, only your body dies, but you soul lives forever!

When the brain dies, the individual ceases to exist, even if the body is kept alive by machines.
