I'd like to know more about your denomination--not the party line from pamphlets or web sites, but what it's like to be Lutheran. All I know is what I hear from Garrison Keillor. Anyone care to share?

God the Son Jesus Christ says that "anyone who says, 'You fool!' will be in danger of the fire of Hell.” (Mat 5:22b) But Saint Paul can care less! He keeps calling them, “O foolish Galatians!” (Gal 3:1, 3 and so on) all the time. Why this double standard? Is it because the Galatians are skeptical about what to believe that the name calling is justifiable?

My house is inside a cemetery (long story) and when there are funerals, people park in our yard and driveway. We can't get in or out to pick up our kids at school, etc. Plus, we're worried about liability if a tree limb or something falls on a car. We put up no parking and private property signs. The funeral directors aren't much help. If it were any other function than a funeral we'd have the cars towed, but that just seems too tacky under the circumstances. Suggestions for how to handle this in a decent manner? Thank you.

One of my favorite plays/movies is Inherit The Wind in which a man is put on trial for teaching evolution in an community that has found it unlawful to teach anything that goes against divine creation. Of course the prosecution has an absolute christian on their side and the defense has somewhat of an agnostic
on their side. But anyway the prosecution's front man dies in the end and the agnostic at the very end takes the bible and Darwin's origin of species and puts them together and walks out of the court room. Of course symbolizing that both could possibly coexist. So what I wanna know is it could it actually happen where evolution and creationism could coexist in the real world. Please do not talk about the validity of the movie I do know the back story of it. I am asking about the philosophy of the matter.

Ok I'm Catholic but I don't watch the Catholic Channel (EWTN) and I heard from one of our Jewish friends that her Catholic friend was freaking out over something the Pope had recently said about Purgatory or something. Did he say anything and if so what did he say?

1) Please state your religious/philosophical orientation.
2) Rank the statements below (A through C) from most true to least true (In you opinion of course).
3) Make any pertinent comments.

A) As religions become more syncratic and pluralistic they become more valuable to humanity and civilization.
B) Syncretism and pluralism undermine and destroy “true” religion and lessen its value to humanity.
C) Religion has no positive value to humanity whatsoever.

Syncretism consists of the attempt to reconcile disparate or contradictory beliefs, often while melding practices of various schools of thought.

Religious Pluralism describes the worldview that one's religion is not the sole and exclusive source of truth, and thus recognizes that some level of truth and value exists in at least some other religions.

I've noticed more times than not, white people are encourage to date outside their race but blacks are encouraged to stick with "their own kind". And on top of that white people are sometimes seen as racist if they aren't open to interracial dating. But how do you do that if a certain number of black people encourage themselves and others to stay within their race but it's the opposite in the white community? I mean interracial dating is a two way street, each side needs to be open before it's done.

I'll first say what made me ask this. One of my contacts asked a simple question about what we called Brazil nuts growing up. Immediatly I knew what she was getting at. All my life everyone in my family, and all my friends families called these little nuts by a term that most people consider a racist term. There is also a flower that grows where I live, that is also called by that name. I never said this name in a racist way, in fact I never really thought about it, however when I read the answers to her question, there were alot of people who instead of just answering the question, took the opportunity to jump all over the asker for using that term and wanted to point out that she shouldn't use that term around her kids. I really wanted to just say "GIVE ME A BREAK PEOPLE!" It isn't being said in a racist way, it was just a term that people where I live have been saying for as long as I can remember. For all I care, people can call vanilla cupcakes "cracker cakes" in their own home.
