I'll first say what made me ask this. One of my contacts asked a simple question about what we called Brazil nuts growing up. Immediatly I knew what she was getting at. All my life everyone in my family, and all my friends families called these little nuts by a term that most people consider a racist term. There is also a flower that grows where I live, that is also called by that name. I never said this name in a racist way, in fact I never really thought about it, however when I read the answers to her question, there were alot of people who instead of just answering the question, took the opportunity to jump all over the asker for using that term and wanted to point out that she shouldn't use that term around her kids. I really wanted to just say "GIVE ME A BREAK PEOPLE!" It isn't being said in a racist way, it was just a term that people where I live have been saying for as long as I can remember. For all I care, people can call vanilla cupcakes "cracker cakes" in their own home.
