In reality just like a few other animals whales don't really sleep because they are mammals they breath air and if they don't get to the surface in time to breath they could die so they kind of go into a day dream and half of their brain kind of goes to sleep so they pretty much let their body rest just a little bit to get their rest and then their body moves around and then they can breath and eat and do everything else they need.

Going off the top of my head, but I think they don't fully go to sleep; rather, they let their brain sleep in sections as they are always swimming.

Again, not for sure...

They have to sleep. I'll guess at this: I think they float very still and their eyes remain open. :)
