The book of Hebrews ,NT, says that in these last days God speaks to us thru His son, Jesus Christ.
It would be extremely rare for God to actually speak to someone today, but there are cases such as Joan of Arc, who heard the voices of angels.
The right thing to do is listen to the Word of God, the Bible, and not to voices in our heads. The Bible says that Satan can appear as an angel of light; also says not to believe the voices of angels that contradict the Bible.
Schizophrenics rarely claim they hear the voice of God. In fact most if not all of the voices schizophrenics hear are destructive in nature and thus could not be God.

lol ive tried talking to god. it was the middle of the night and i had lost all faith and i declared in my head, "god if you are real than prove yourself!" and i swear i am not lieing the alarm clock started ringing even though it was set for the morning. for all the sceptics however, my alarm did this the following day as well lol. i think the battery needed changing. anyway i tried it again about a year later. i am not lieing lol the phone started ringing. biggest fright of my life. nobody was on the other end lol.
anyway back to the question! its because you cant prove it i guess. people dont believe what they cant see.

When you talk/pray to a god you believe you are actually talking to a real entity. When you hear voices in your head, that's schizophrenia.
A better example. Say you talk to your dog. Talking to your dog doesn't make you crazy. If you hear your dog talk back, you're crazy.

Because it is most likely, save outside proof or evidence, that there is a mental condition rather than some type of divine revelation.

The people who say such nonsense are the schizophrenics. The Bible is covered in places where God spoke to His people.

well i don't think that it's being schizophrenic.just depends how you view this topic and God i guess... unless he's telling you to kill people for the good of the world...
didn't this happen to joan of ark?? and she got burnt at the stake??
cos she heard Gods voice that is. not killing the world.

Because no one wants to believe that anyone is special enough to be spoken to by God aside from them. It seems that everyone has this undeserved sense of self accomplishment/depravity and that they deserve/ are worthy enough to be spoken to.

well it depends, when we speak with God throught prayers, he doesnt physically talk to us. he communicates its through feelings or the spirit. when he actually speaks to someone, it is considered a vision.
