De Facto atheist "I cannot know for certain but I think God is very improbable, and I live my life on the assumption that he is not there"?

Mother Theresa

Do It Anyway

People are often unreasonable, illogical,
And self-centered;
Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you
Of selfish, ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some
False friends and some true enemies;
Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank;
People may cheat you;
Be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building,
someone could destroy overnight;
Build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness,
they may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.

The good you do today,
people will often forget tomorrow;
Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have,
and it may never be enough;
Give the world the best you've got anyway.

You see, in the final analysis
it is between you and God
It was never between you and them anyway

All I know is from http://www.pantheon.org/articles/e/eir.html :
Eir ("mercy") is a minor Norse goddess of healing. She knew the secret powers of herbs, with which she could even resurrect the dead. She taught the art of healing only to women, who, in ancient Scandinavia, were the only physicians. She is the patroness of health-care workers, called on against sickness or injury. She is one of the goddesses on the mountain called Lyfia ("to heal through magic"), and gives both physical and psychic means of healing; shamanic healing, especially, falls into her realm
Eir is a companion of the goddess Frigg.

I have also heard She is a sort of patron goddess of Epileptics. Is this correct and what can you add?

Here's a guy who spent 30 years studying the Bible - was long a fundamentalist, literalist - attended prestigious divinity schools and is now chair of the religious studies department at UNC. But what did all that Biblical research do for him? Caused him to lose his faith:

I have a grade 10 class and need ideas about what to do to help the community. So far we've thought of creating a "toy drive" or going to visit kids at a hospital.

*Note: The class budget is $0 so all the money (if any) shall come out of the kids' pockets.

The lack of evidence is obviously a big one, but I think that the Catholic church's actions during the renaissance and reformation put the nail in the coffin. I'm talking about the counter-reformation and how they attempted to handle the whole situatuion. What are your reasons and what do you think about the whole Catholic church thing?

Satan was an angel, part of a race of beings that God created long before humans were created. I believe that the Bible states that plainly.

But did God know that Satan would rebel? Did God create Satan to be evil? Did he intend for Satan to be evil?

God knows everything and is everywhere at all times, with all knowledge. So wouldn't he have known that Satan was to become evil?

The obvious argument would be that God created angels to have free will, which he also gave to humans. This explanation would allow for Satan choosing to become bad. But it still doesn't explain how evil is even a possible option for an angel in a universe where it never had existed before.

I guess what I am saying is that the existence of evil in a universe created by God makes little sense to me.

Can anyone help me here?

I keep noticing questions about this today, so I wanted to just see what everyone thinks.

The definition of a hypocrite is:
a person whose actions belie stated beliefs

Here's my question: Doesn't this apply to everyone? I mean wouldn't almost everyone here say that it's important to treat others as you'd like to be treated --- but no one lives up to that 100% of the time (or if you do, maybe you're not married ;) ).

I'm sure there are lots of universal (or nearly) examples --- for example, again, I think most of us would say that being kind to others is a goal for which we should all strive, but very few if any of us are able to practice kindness perfectly all the time.

Am I missing something? Doesn't that put us *all* in the hypocrite boat? I'm not trying to justify "Christians behaving badly";There's no excuse for our behavior, and I include myself in that. But saying you don't want to hang with hypocrites -- doesn't that mean you have to quit hanging out with yourself?

What I am saying is Blacks are the original race and they reproduce all the other races out there in the world. Thats why I don't understand why we have racism. We produced the Green, Blue, Hazel, Gray, Brown eyes. We produced the different hair textures and other colors of hair. We reproduced the other races that are out there that what I mean they created the world. I know god created the world. Black are just the original race and I don't understand why people can't accept it. We reproduced the Whites who are just simple albinos of black people, we create asians, creoles, natives it was us. If you take a look down the bloodlines you will see every race has African blood traced to them. The reasons why whites have hazel, blue, brown, green, gray eyes is because what happens when blacks have albinos. Its creates brown, blonde, red hair. It creates the green, blue, gray, hazel eyes. Its in the study its in the facts. Vist
