Have you gotten to the point in your faith that you are so sick of hearing the "good news" that you are ready to throw in the towel? I grew up hearing this all my life, had no choice in the matter, I was even forced to go the college of my parent's choosing because of their strong faith. I was extremely active in christian activities throughout school, high school and college. I went through a period after all of this in which I hadn't been to church in ages, not sure about my beliefs and extremely resentful that most of these choices had always been made for me as if I never had a say in the matter. I'm just wondering how many other people out there are like me? I'm beginning to pick up the pieces now but I feel like this shook my faith more than it built it because I was not encouraged I was forced.

Suppose we have a two-valued situation - either a thing is or it isn't. If I believe in it and you don't, and I don't understand why you don't believe, then I don't really understand the question. Perhaps, if I did understand, I'd agree with you.

The reverse is also true - if I don't believe and I don't understand why you do, then again I don't really understand what's going on.

Do you agree or disagree, and on what basis?

And please - I am not intentionally trying to convince anyone of anything. I believe what I said above, and I'm simply curious what other people think. I don't want to read a treatise on why you do or do not believe in any specific thing. I beg you - keep your answers focussed on the question.

Last night, my friend and I were sitting in the living room and I said to her, "I never want to live in a vegetative state, dependent on some machine and fluids from a bottle. If that ever happens, just pull the plug."

So she got up, unplugged the TV, and threw out my wine.

She's such a *****.....

I know that God spoke to Moses to come back up the mountain where the 10 commandments were written and that He would show him His hinderparts, apparently his back side. When Moses came down from the Mountain his whole face shown.

I just copied and pasted that statement from another question. I have seen this quoted much lately. This is not talking about the general meaning of the word "catholic" which means "universal", this is talking about the Catholic religion. In your opinion, is that a true statement or a false one? Please state why and tell your religion. No hate answers toward Catholics, please.

often i hear people talk about how life is so improbable that it couldn't have been created by random chance, therefore it must have a creator. so i thought about asking this question to see how well most people understand probability. it's pretty simple. let's say you flip a coin 10 times, one at a time. let H represent heads and T represent tails. which event is more probable?
if the coins land in the following order:
HHHHHHHHHH
or
HTTHHHTTHH?
for the second event to occur, the first toss must result in H, the second T, the third T, and so on. got it?

For the time being, ignore the fact that the Biblical gods themselves share a lot of attributes with a lot of other regional gods from Egyptian and Greek culture.

Many modern readers don't understand the 17th century Old English which the King James version of the Bible was translated into. The more modern translations also tend to water-down these passages which are less than pleasing and alter the original intent of the authors of the Bible. For example, Ezekiel 23:20 speaks of a whore who lusts after men who have penises as big as donkeys and who ejaculate as much as horses.

The original King James translation says it this way: "whose flesh is as the flesh of asses, and whose issue is like the issue of horses."

And the Revised Standard Version puts it like this:
"whose members were like those of asses, and whose issue was like that of horses."

The Good News Bible translation completely removes the reference to the sexual organs and discharges of these animals, calling it merely "lustfulness" as follows:

"She was filled with lust for oversexed men who had all the lustfulness of donkeys or stallions."

Assume a person could be born in a remote area with no social interaction, (alone)
{or even with unknowing others}
their life is basic, sleep and eat. They have no possible way of being taught about god. they are existing none the less and will die
are they sent to hell for not obeying rules which they never even had a chance to be given?

likewise
mankind prior to religion
and
mentally handicap who can't comprehend these rules

why should one be punished if they are not given a fair chance due to their environment, time of existence, or lack of ability to understand.
if they are not punished, would it then be better not to learn the rules of god since acquiring them forces you to follow them

There are many opposing views in this world, many of which offend individuals who hold the opposite view. Does anyone have the right not to be offended?
Religions use the law to stop people offending them. Yet I find religion offensive in itself. What is my recourse?
