Many indeed desiring to save themselves, abandond the everyday world and entered monasteries. Some even sought refuge in the desert where they lived in complete solitude. However only a few took these extreme measure and in so doing did not necessarily leave the world of sin, which is to be found in all sircumstances, expecially in the human soul. It is unfortunately possible to leave the natural world but take the world of sin with you. Conversely, it is possibel to leave the world of sin and sta in the natural world. According to St Anthony the Great, who came out of the solitude of the desert into the world once again, true Christians occupy themselves in secular things, but inwardly they talk with God and not with the world around them. If you live like this, says St. Anthany, you will be in the world but not of it and you will find peace. Father Sergei says that the saints do not see sinful asct the way sinful people do because they are not attracted to such desires.
