Many indeed desiring to save themselves, abandond the everyday world and entered monasteries. Some even sought refuge in the desert where they lived in complete solitude. However only a few took these extreme measure and in so doing did not necessarily leave the world of sin, which is to be found in all sircumstances, expecially in the human soul. It is unfortunately possible to leave the natural world but take the world of sin with you. Conversely, it is possibel to leave the world of sin and sta in the natural world. According to St Anthony the Great, who came out of the solitude of the desert into the world once again, true Christians occupy themselves in secular things, but inwardly they talk with God and not with the world around them. If you live like this, says St. Anthany, you will be in the world but not of it and you will find peace. Father Sergei says that the saints do not see sinful asct the way sinful people do because they are not attracted to such desires.

Don't know who those guys are, but here's my take on it.

Sinfulness is the absence of Godliness, just as darkness is the absence of light, and cold is the absence of heat.

If you walk into a dark room, and you want it to not be dark... do you search for a bucket to "put all the dark into"? No. You introduce light to the room. If you are in a cold room and you want it not to be cold, do you try to vacuum out the cold? No. You add heat to the room. To live in a world full of sin, introduce Jesus to it. Everywhere that He is, the darkness no longer exists. Do not occupy your time with trying to "not be bad". Occupy your time with "doing good".

Believers in Jesus Christ are simply no longer of the world; in the world, but not of it (John 17:14-15). What believers *should* do is to be set apart from the world. This is the meaning of being holy and living a holy, righteous life--to be set apart. We are not to engage in the sinful activities the world promotes, nor are we to retain the insipid, corrupt mind that the world creates. Rather, we are to conform ourselves, and our minds, to that of Jesus Christ (Romans 12:1-2). This is a daily activity; a daily commitment. We can enjoy the things of the world, but we are not to immerse ourselves in the world. Pleasure is no longer our calling in life, but rather the worship of God.

yea, yea, yea...that's all great...yup! but you are missing the point..the first thing is to fix "you" in your heart....and allow the Lord to do this...working with Him in it..not hard...then, you are talking about "spiritual warfare" this is another thing all together...and we don't do this by "physical means" so, here you have a lot of things going on in a question, and asking for an "answer" when it's more like "teachings" that you require...
