Fundamentalist is not soley a religious term, it describes an absolute. It can be either and any.
Having said that, it is most often used to define a zealot of religion. I.e. Muslims who are suicide bombers, cut the throats of people they view as enemies of God, believe that religion is government.

A fundie is a religious fanatic. They are almost always Christians, but all religions have them. Basically they think their job is to shove their beliefs down your throat as hard as they can in any/all ways they can. They're scary little
SOBs. Steer clear of 'em if you can.

Short for "Fundamentalist". The Encarta North American English dictionary definition of "Fundamentalism" is "a religious or political movement based on a literal interpretation of and strict adherence to doctrine, especially as a return to former principles; the belief that religious or political doctrine should be implemented literally, not interpreted or adapted."

I would say it was an unpleasant person. I think here fundies are fundamentalist christians, but in the real world, fundie could be applied to any extremist group, like terrorists or republicans.
