Which verse in the Bible says that God created the world (or universe) out of nothing? (Hint: Genesis 1:1 doesn't do that, so don't even try).

John McCain recently said "the Constitution established the United States of America as a Christian nation."

Where would he get that nonsense from? There is absolutely nothing in the US Constitution that establishes the US as a Christian nation. Nothing. The writers were extremely careful about not mentioning religions or gods.

Is he just pandering for votes or could he honestly be that uneducated about the country he wants to lead?

I heard that long ago, there was a civilization who once lived where the famous Bermuda Triangle is, who was incredibly advanced above all civilizations, but who's technology created such an intense electronic type of force that it literally 'fried' the entire area and created this intense vaccuum that we cannot explain. Anyone else hear about this story?

Hello all! I am in swirls of confusion!
I was raised as a "nondenominational" Protestant. Over the years I have delved deeper into my faith and explored many of its wonderful aspects. As commonly done, Catholicism was always thought of as negative or only mentioned in obscure terms. As odd as it may seem, I have for some time felt drawn to monasticim. (I have more books on monasticism than the average Protestant would...) I believe I may even be called to a vocation as a sister. But, after studying Catholic doctrine I still diagree with many of its teachings. And then, I feel at odds with many Protestant and/or nondenominational churches whose teachings I find (not all, just the ones I attended) to be very much centered on self, financial rewards, and the well being of its members only. If I were to conceed in becoming a sister, I do not want to be cloistered- many female communities are. I would like to be in a community where diversity in both age and ethnicity are prevelant. Help!

All over this answers thing we have people who dont understand christianity bashing catholics based on things they think we believe. Why is that.

And when they say we know you believe it!, is it just to annoy me?

I go to a spirit filled Catholic church. I never hear Hail Marys, I never pray to saints, all I see is complete focus on Jesus and love for God.

I have found that everything that goes on in Church within the mass is found in the bible. You can interpret it that way.

Why do people disagree, is it because they dont have any Church history or writings to show them how to interpret the bible.

For years I thought that the bible was Gods infallible word and should be taken on its own.

Now I find in the bible that it says that you scripture isint for personal interpretation. But people have been doing that for 400 years, why is that and is that the reason there are 50,000 denominations all believing different things and thinking they are right.

""Suppose we've chosen the wrong god? Every time we go to church, we're just making him madder and madder."

I was sitting in the baptismal service at church last night, and had an interesting idea. A couple weeks ago I went to a meeting for the Youth leaders of our church and we talked and watched a video about reaching young people in the new generation (the "Mosaics"). I also had just talked to my mom recently about what she calls the "Sesame Street Effect" which is the lower attention span, the ability, and necessity, to multi-task, and interest in things that would cause baby-boomers epileptic seizures. Also, I was inspired by the Weekend of Prayer in Lancaster, PA. On Saturday, the format for the most part was in each 2-hour set there was a worship team (musicians and singers), an MC who set the mood, and voiced the focus of the set, and a prayer leader who periodically spoke the word of God, either through inspiration or through the reading of scripture. So, here is the idea that came to me:

i dont carethat much if they believe god talks to them or the holy spirit guides them or whatever but the cheesy way they have to express it,really annoys me...it is an irrational "hate" i cannot control when i hear all those "open your heart to the light and love of our father" (most of the words capitalised) or "bow before the lord your king because his salvation is nigh" really makes me feel like vomiting...can´t christians speak "normal"?...after all they are no Shakespeare or Whittman,so leave poetry to poets...

Christianity would be a very positive force for society if they cared about full grown human beings as much as they cared about zygotes and fetuses.

I'm in a Christian club at my high school and out of almost 30 people only 3 of us don't go to their main church, which isn't a big deal. The problem is that everyone assumes we go to another church, but I don't attend church at all because it's sort of controversial in my family; my mom is baptist and my dad is catholic. Is it still okay that I participate in this on campus ministry without actually attending a church? My other question is how can I tell my parents? I don't plan on telling them unless they mention it first, but how can I explain how much I like it there? I'm afraid that because of our background my parents will think that I shouldn't or they will think it's peer pressure. I'm just so confused! Especially when religions start to clash.
