I was sitting in the baptismal service at church last night, and had an interesting idea. A couple weeks ago I went to a meeting for the Youth leaders of our church and we talked and watched a video about reaching young people in the new generation (the "Mosaics"). I also had just talked to my mom recently about what she calls the "Sesame Street Effect" which is the lower attention span, the ability, and necessity, to multi-task, and interest in things that would cause baby-boomers epileptic seizures. Also, I was inspired by the Weekend of Prayer in Lancaster, PA. On Saturday, the format for the most part was in each 2-hour set there was a worship team (musicians and singers), an MC who set the mood, and voiced the focus of the set, and a prayer leader who periodically spoke the word of God, either through inspiration or through the reading of scripture. So, here is the idea that came to me:

A new format of worship service, possibly already being done in some places, I wouldn't doubt. Utilizing one or more projection screens, projecting a series of images, scripture verses, song lyrics, bright moving patterns, videos. A worship team performing live music, singing Christian lyrics, or a DJ spinning Christian tunes, or both. A prayer leader/preacher stepping up periodically - while the music goes on, but without the singing, or with lyrics lowered - speaks forth the Word, reading scriptures, speaking as they are inspired to do so. Chairs able/encouraged to be moved anywhere, not necessarily focussed to look at the prayer leader, open space in the center for dancing for the Lord, and ample altar space and prayer space.
Its a Jesus-rave, pretty much. Where better to get high on the Spirit?
