as everyone has already said it was the irish rovers and the song was the unicorn
they also did many other great songs, although none went as far as the unicorn
a few of my favorites:
the orange and the green
goodbye mrs durkin
the black velvet band

i listened to it when i was growing up and these 3 songs in particular have a lot of meaning as does the unicorn
especially the orange and the green - it is about growing up in a home where one parent is catholic and the other parent is protestant - which i did. it really is quite funny (if you can get beyond their irish brogue and understand what they are saying)
if you ever get a chance to listen to their best of cd - do it - i think you will enjoy it

The Unicorn Song. Can't remember who sang it though. I think it was an Irish group. That's it, The Irish Rovers, I think that was who sang this song.

unicorn, and perhaps the Irish Rovers sang it? Whoever it was, it was a one hit wonder band here, perhaps not in the UK.

You're not gonna find no unicorn--I know this is wrong but for some reason I keep thinking Beryl Ives. Sorry my mind is blown.

Unicorn.
Jimmy Rodgers? I can't remember. You always stump me and I don't want to go on line to hunt for it. By the time I find it, someone will have answered it.
