I have connected with the Holy Spirit within the last 7yrs. I listen to "FaithTalk Radio" at work everyday on the internet while I'm at work. My license plate on my car says "INOHIM2" - I was having a small delima and my friend was offering some advise, and at the end of our talk I told him - I'd have to pray about it in order to get some clarity on the subject. He told me - He believes religion is a bunch of crock. He feels its just a industrialized and commercialized form of sycological warefare and is only for the self absorbed. I told him my religion and my spirituality is a nuturalizer / a shock obsorber for the all the many things that come from being in the world. I was a little bit hurt by him thinking I was to emotionally charged. I felt like he questioned my sensarity and the love I have for my spiritual comforter. What should I think about him. should I tone down who I am around him. or limit my being around him...... WHAT

Is it even worth it, anymore, to ask questions here in religion and spirituality?

I don't mind answers that disagree with my viewpoint.

But, I DO mind when the answerer completely disregards the question.

Someone just answered my honest question, that bothered me throughout the day, until I could come home to ask it, by informing me that I look like an emo clown in my avatar picture. As a side note in their answer, that's fine; I'd probably find it funny, even, but when they don't even bother to consider my question, but answer it anyway, therefore wasting the time it will take me to read it, it's quite annoying....

If you have an (obviously) important exam during Ramadan, would that be a valid reason to miss a day of fasting and make it up after?

Would it be a racist remark to say that a lot of southern asians, or people that look like people of the indian sub continent, are specialists at curry?
Would it also be considered racist to call an indian looking person "curryface" or "currybreath"?
Thanks

Most people claim that religion is a private matter, between the person and their lord.

If the same people who claim this, allow their religious beliefs to be argued about in public, do they nullify their own statement about religion being a private matter?

I am asking you more "spiritual" people...
Do you give away stars ?
If you do, what is the criteria for giving away a star ?
Do you give that star just to people who are somehow "popular" in your eyes,or do you give it to somebody who isn't popular but asks a good question ?
If not,why ?

I mean I'm watching a 19 y/o male play Pokemon. He does not know any world news or current events... surprising? What does that say about someone's maturity level? We have many kids these days that grew up playing video games since 5 or 6. Now, if they had a well-balanced life, no big deal... but the parents allow video game play for extended hours(8 hours a day for some kids). What kind of generation are we going to have? It looks to be a very ignorant one folks. Do anybody else see this?

Apparently, suicide is a "sin."

However, Jesus was said to have "died for our sins." This implies that either Jesus willingly died for our sins, and therefore committed a form of suicide, or God KILLED Jesus for our sins. In the first possibility, Jesus was a sinner, in the second, God is the sinner.

Which is it?

"Being in denial" is a highly undesirable mental condition. I'm in the process of positing a view that your beliefs may have long-term deleterious effects. Do you think that there is any validity to this argument?

The Sage's English Dictionary and Thesaurus definition of Atheist: "Someone who DENIES the existence of God" (my emphasis). Do you find it interesting that the wording of the definition itself is, by clear implication, claiming that God exists? :)

Atheist is in the forest-appreciating nature. Turns around to see a Grizzly bear. Mistakenly starts running. Bear chases. Looks back...bear is getting closer. Looks again and the bear swipes the atheist's legs...knocking him to the ground. As the bear raises its paw to land the deadly swipe the atheist says "GOD!" Everything freezes and the atheist finds himself standing before Jesus. "After denying me for so long..is it really appropriate to call me now? Jesus asks. The atheist thinks about it and says.."you're right...its too late to convert and accept you now..but do me a favor. Make the bear a Christian."
In the next moment the atheist is back under the bear and the bear is raising his paw...and then brings his paw down to meet his other one, bows his head and says "Father we thank you for this food...."

One of the greatest criticisms Protestants make against the Catholic Church questions our practice of sacramental confession. "Why tell your sins to a priest when you can go directly to God?" they ask. Our reply? Because this sacrament is one of the greatest blessings Catholics have. A sacrament - which no other church has - providing us with absolution of sin. The wonderful Catholic sacrament of reconciliation (confession) through which we who are repentant are assured of the Lord's forgiveness by one of God's special representatives, our priests.

Where in the Bible does Jesus give priests the power to forgive sins? In John 20, verse 23, Jesus says to the disciples, "As the Father has sent me so I send you...receive the Holy Spirit. For those whose sins you forgive, they are forgiven; for those whose sins you retain, they are retained." Jesus clearly expected the successors of the disciples, the bishops and priests down through the centuries, to continue

We are trying to think of something fun to do tonight, but nothing is coming to mind. It needs to be free or very cheap, and nothing involving movies or video games (board games and cards work, but we already thought of that). Any suggestions?

It makes me laugh.

No other topic seems to draw such an immediate and flooding reaction as a question related to religion.

Even atheists, whom you would think could care less, seem to be almost more passionate about defending their non-theism with an almost ultra-religious ferver!

It's no wonder our world is always at war.

I think it's because there's no education about religion in schools (at least in the U.S.), so there's total ignorance about common grounds and an educated discussion about differences and mutual respect of those differences. Instead, everyone huddles to their corners and reacts like vicious, rabid animals when anyone touches the "meat" near their terroritory.

For me, I'm fascinated by all religions. I think the true answers are based in science, and religion is simply how we try to make sense of the un-understandable. And I respect the rights of others to worship freely as they wish, in public, in government buildings, it's all good.
