[[Yes, I know you'll all disagree, and block me and such. But I don't care. It's my question, and I'm asking anyway.]]

Apparently, suicide is a "sin."

However, Jesus was said to have "died for our sins." This implies that either Jesus willingly died for our sins, and therefore committed a form of suicide, or God KILLED Jesus for our sins. In the first possibility, Jesus was a sinner, in the second, God is the sinner.

Which is it?

It wasn't suicide since he knew he would come back. Some say he did not die at all he was only playing possum.

Hello, First i will start with suicide. I have not found in the bible were suicide is a sin. all sins will be forgiven except one. Mt 12:32 Please do not commit this sin I Beg YOU. Furthermore, Jesus did not commit suicide, it was a act of LOVE & Sacrifice Would you die for someone you know or someone you don't know. When Jesus died i believe he died sinner but not of his own sin because of our sin. Jesus did go to hell not for punshiment but to get back the Key of life. Sorry, but this is a very heavy question and not enough words to explain. He died so we can have a relationship with God That is as simple as I can get it. I hope this helped a little.

Very good question: If people asked the correct questions they would get the correct answers.
It has to do with your definition of sin. Augustine brought into the Catholic church the whole idea that we are born with a sin nature. Before that time sin was simply something we do. If I go into a store and steal a watch when do I become a thief? Before I steal it or after? What says a court of law? Only after I do something evil. We are not born in sin only with the ability to sin. Therefore sin is a choice. Jesus made right choices and therefore was not a sinner nor did He sin.
If you are taught that you are born a sinner then you are in an Augustinian theological system not a Biblical Jewish Christian view. The Eastern Orthodox view is the early church view held in America only by a few but there are some groups who have it right.

Facts:

-Suicide is purposefully killing yourself.
-Jesus purposefully killed himself to "atone for humanity's sins."
-Therefore, Jesus committed suicide.

Christians clearly state that suicide is a mortal sin--you are sent straight to Hell for it (I go to a Catholic school, ugh). They can argue that Jesus' suicide (and a suicide it was) was not a sin, then that's a different argument.

But even still, to me, that means that anyone who commits suicide is making some sacrifice or other. If a person jumps out of the window of a tall building to escape a burning fire, it is not considered sinful. They are simply choosing, what they feel, is a less painful way to die. Yet, your typical person that commits suicide is choosing to die (jump out the window) rather than continue to live life (the burning fire). The two are essentially the same, but are not treated as such.

I don't see how Christians can deny that Jesus committed suicide; it's quite obvious. He willingly killed himself for whatever reason, whether it was actually to save us or not. He had fore-knowledge of his death, evident by his praying in the Garden of Gethsemane the night of his arrest for God to spare him.

So, Jesus committed suicide. In addition, God killed him. The only reason Jesus existed was to die. God sent him to earth to be killed--I call that murder. That wasn't God's first, however, he's infamous for it.

Entering a situation that will provoke others to murderous rage is not suicide. People are responsible for their own actions. You've heard the argument that rape victims were "asking for it" if they didn't dress modestly? Same false reasoning.

Jesus opposed institutionalized oppression and extortion. His witness against those who profited from this system provoked them to arrange for his execution. By metaphysical extension, anyone who has partaken in injustice against the poor and powerless is an accessory to the murder. "God gave his son" to witness, not to sacrifice. That was our idea.

Confusion results from the doctrine of the "Atonement", which portrays Jesus as a human-divine victim offered to God as expiation for humanity's sin. This doesn't work because the "victim" is provided by the offended party and the "offering" is not intentional. But a lot of other doctrine hangs on this one, so Christians are reluctant to give it up. It would seem to make more sense that Christ was sent to show humans how to live and what to be willing risk death for, but this seems to be a less popular opinion. Apparently it creates too much personal responsibility.

I won't argue the semantics of your question, but respond, rather, with an interesting fact: suicide didn't used to be a sin. Only later dogma designated suicide as a carnal sin after preachers would talk entire congregations into mass suicide to rise up to heaven. In fact, the compulsion still exists to day, what with all of the death cults. But it's because of that concern that suicide became such a big deal.
Back in Jesus' time, it wasn't.
Of course, his act might not have been suicide or murder for other reasons I won't get into, since I think my first assertion is enough to answer your initial concern.

Does it say suicide is a sin or murder?

Neither God nor Jesus were sinners. Jesus accepted the punishment for our sins...He SACRIFICED himself for our souls. The consequence for sin is death...Jesus had to die to pay the debt for our sins because without his sacrifice and blood we would never be holy enough to come to God. It was an act of love, obedience and faithfulness and loyalty to His word...not suicide or murder. Also, He did not hammer the nails in his hand...they were nailed there after his trial where he was found guilty of love and sentenced to death on the cross. On the cross he promised a spot in paradise to one of the theives who were next to him...so he forgave another of their sin. Earlier before his death he said that He who is perfect can cast the first stone...only God has the power to fogive...so if the thief was forgiven then he was forgiven by a man who was without sin...

But, this was a great question and well though out. Thanks! God bless :-)

First off it isnt a dumb question actually very intelligent!
My thoughts on the matter:
1.) Jesus yes was human but, God's spirit was in him so actually if you look at it this way Jesus was murderd by the people whom choose his death in court. He was an innocent man who was guilty for helping people. the reason people choose for him to die is because they didnt understand his perpose and why they wernt like him. He was a deliver of the peoples heartache and back then they didnt know of sin so when someone died their soul didnt go to hell they went to a waiting place. I know this may be confusing but if you have any more questions feel free to ask. And NO Jesus didnt commit suicide he was destined by God to die just as mary was chosen by God to be his mother...

Every moment's actions of Prophes of God are guided by God and His angels. They never commit any sin.

By calling Jesus a sinner you are adding into your sins. You are very ignorant. If you can't say any thing good about Jesus atleast don't say any thing bad.

This is a Muslim asking you to wise up for your own good..

Actually, neither. Jesus came to earth with the intention of living a life in human form that was totally dedicated to doing the will of the father. This was meant to demonstrate to us the path back to the Creator.

His plan was to be born, to live, and then die as a normal human existence. The torture and murder part was man's idea.

Man has no sin - Jesus did not die for our sins. Salvation was not purchased for us from a vengeful god by the death of Jesus. Salvation depends on living your life in Love as Jesus demonstrated. Nothing else. It's all up to you.

Jesus was killed by others. He didn't kill Himself, but nice try. i will admit it makes you think...at least for a second. Yes He was willing to die so that we all may live again. He overcame death in the resurrection. It was an infinite sacrifice that has to be made. if there was another way that would have been done. but there wasn't suicide. He died so that we all may live. suicide is selfish. what Christ did was anything but. would you die so that other may live? i know i would die if it gave someone else the chance to live and have a happy life. so in your opinion if i give up my life for another I'm killing myself. pretty lame if you ask me.
