"Being in denial" is a highly undesirable mental condition. I'm in the process of positing a view that your beliefs may have long-term deleterious effects. Do you think that there is any validity to this argument?

The Sage's English Dictionary and Thesaurus definition of Atheist: "Someone who DENIES the existence of God" (my emphasis). Do you find it interesting that the wording of the definition itself is, by clear implication, claiming that God exists? :)

To clear up any misunderstanding. This is not proof that God exists, just some questions for my Atheist friends here. :)

Dear Bluto Blutarksky11 --- I get you, you make a very bad point, but you're correct, I can't actually prove that you are an imbecile with the brain of a gnat. But the anecedotal evidence is erxtremely strong --- kinda overwhelming as a matter of fact. XD (as if he could outdo the legend lol)

LOL...Now I have a "mental condition" and my morality is in jeopardy just because I am Atheist . Too funny!

Ummm...validity to your arguement? I would have to say no. Not any more than you are mentally impaired or suffering from any deleterious effects.

Denial in god/s is no more damaging to one's psyche than denial in pixie dust. It is a belief, a thought, a conviction. The only time I really think about it at all is when I am fielding questions directed to Atheists. It would be my belief that to deny one's own true self and beliefs would be more damaging. You are who you are. Repression of your true self (the meaning of "being in denial" or "self-denial") causes stress and anxiety, which can lead to health problems eventually.

Webster's dictionary defines Atheist as one who does not BELIEVE in deity or the supernatural.

Webster's deny - To declare untrue.

Webster's believe - To accept as true or real.

It appears to me that it doesn't say that to deny something you have to believe in its existance in the first place. It simply states to declare something untrue.

The only thing that gets tedious is having to constantly fend off efforts to convert me.

And so once again a Christian mangles definitions and meanings for the sake of their mythology.

Atheists do not live in denial. To deny something presupposes its existence. Demonstrate that a god exists and you might be surprised by the response.

Of course people have tried for centuries to demonstrate that their god/gods exist and no one has succeeded so far. If you do, perhaps you can collect on the Amazing Rani's million dollar challenge!

It's mis-defined. If you look at the word it's easy to see that it literally means 'without theism'. The prefix a means without or not.

Do they define an amoralist as someone who denies the existence of morals?

Seems that all that has been proved is that the Sage's English Dictionary has an agenda that doesn't always include accurately defining words.

I deny the supernatural and I likes it.

Denial means, in some dictionaries, to refuse to accept. So that dictionary should be updated.

Atheists don't believe that God exists. If atheists denied God's existence then it would be assumed that God exists. Since no one knows if God actually exists, the definition is fallacious.

sage's english dictionary and thesourus was obviously not written by an atheist. we're not in denial, we prefer to trust facts and science, rather than a book handed to us and a priest telling us it's the word of a supperior being that we will never see, hear, or touch.

in my opinion, it's the other way around... christians are denying science, technology and evolution.

Simply being in denial is not an undesirable mental condition. We all seek the truth (well, most of us do). It is not about the denial of God. It is about the belief that there is no God to deny.

Not an atheist (agnostic) but your question begs for more than it should.

If I claim that you are a moron with the iq of a common housefly would you be in a state of denial if you disagreed with me?

see you need to prove something true before you can find someone putting on intentional blinders and bieng in a "state of denial".

seems to me that the only proof here is on our side. you deny that your alleged "holy books" are contradictory, contrary to science and logic and deny that you worship fairy tales.

until you provide proof of existance thats all they are.

see I can call you a moron with the brain of a housefly, however until I provide proof of same (or you do- and this question is a pretty good step towards proving that), then it is not true.

Did you have to search long for that (incorrect) definition or did you deliberately leave out the word disbelieves?

One who disbelieves or denies the existence of God or gods.
American Heritage Dictionary

One who believes that there is no deity
Merriam Webster

A person who denies or disbelieves the existence of a supreme being or beings
Dictionary.com

A person who does not believe in God

Your question is loaded. To be in denial indicates that there is some existing thing to be denied. Atheists don't believe in such a thing (in the case of God), thus the answer to your question is - try again.

I don't much care what the dictionary say. The bottom line is that there is no evidence for the existence of God.
