Will they sacrafice everything for their fame they can't take anywhere with them but left and down?

Only God knows what's in a human's mind, and it's best that only God knows. If such people you mention in your question do such things, then that's their loss and it's their decision.

And that is where you lost the plot! Why are you so concerned with other people start worrying about yourself and your state of mind. When people are ready to find God they will, in their own time and they don't want or need anyone to rub it in their face. They will seek when they are ready!

If you're seeing nothing in their eyes, then you can't be seeing "more" of anything, to be able to like it less. There's nothing there to see.
So in the end, it's all an illusion anyway.
