basically; God takes a perfectly happy dedicated person, destroys anyone or anything positive in his life, leaves him with nothing except his faith that God must have a reason for doing this, to prove a point to the devil that his faith is unshakable...

now... God is omniscient... he already knows whether Job would break or not... so what possible reason would he have for the horrors he commits upon Job ?

I know that Jehovah witnesses believe that they are the 144,000 in the Bible. And my church teahes that the Jews are the 144,00. Where do both groups come up with this answer?

How does this phrase phase you? If someone treats you nice, you treat them nice back? If someone treats you crappy, do you treat them badly back?
I treat people nicely, and talk nicely to people reguardless of how rude they are to me! My opinion on this is, if someone is rude to me, they are the ones having a issue not me!
So, should I treat them rudely back, if they do so to me? What's your opinion on 'Treating others the way you want to be treated'?

When I was growing up, I always hear it as "Thou shall not kill". I was Mormon, and so this was out of the King James Bible in the 1980's. My wife was raised Catholic, and she told me it was the same from the Bible they used.

Ever watch "The Ten Commandments"? It was also made in the 1980's. (I think, perhaps earlier). This will prove my point that it was "Thou shall not KILL". Which Bible did they use? Hmmmm.

I pointed out that God says not to kill, and yet he also says to slay your own brother and live by the sword. I was "corrected" by many people who said, "It say thou shall not MURDER".

When did people decide to change this little discrepancy? Either the mainstream Bibles were changed, or these people were quoting some watered-down, NEW version of the Bible, obviously changing verses as they saw fit... I thought God's word did not change?

I will ask this question again tomorrow morning when all the diehard Bible-thumpers are on.

The excuses should be amusing.

I've often wondered this, and also about other movies that aren't "horror" but do have other elements that seem evil. Like "Ghost Rider" - making deals with the Devil, even Lord of the Rings has evil elements in it. The good usually wins out, but really - I want to know what other christians have to say on the matter. Would Jesus be watching this movie with us? and would God be upset with us for watching man's portrayal of something so evil and dangerous? The Devil is someone who has power, and no one knows exactly what he looks like, though the Bible says he can portray himself as an angel of light. This is the one who can deceive us and cause us to fall away from God and eternity (though the one who makes the final decision that makes us fall away is ourselves). Should we really be playing with something like that? Let me know your honest opinions. Thanks!

The fact that the spelling is far from phonetic - the same combinations of letters can stand for totally different words, like the "ough" in "tough", "though", "drought", etc.

Star this Question if you like please..

Pretty please?

I've heard the "it's not what the Bible says" thing and the "we never saw a ceature evolve in front of us" thing. It would take too long to explain why that doesn't make sense. Still...

I'd like to see you explain what is faulty in the THEORY. Aside from the proofs, what's wrong with thinking a creature, over millions of years, will adapt to it's environment until it has to be considered a new species?

Think about it, if you were black or Jewish and for one day everyone dressed up in Nazi or KKK costumes how would that make you feel. The some way Christan's feel when people dress up as Devils and Witches.

but, not following the rest of the rules of your religion and not, necessarily, recognizing the divinity of your gods or godesses?

Do you think that UU's are cheating? Or, does that make you proud of your religion's teachings - that it is applicable outside of your actual church?

about someone who leaves the organization - "they know it's the truth". However, I never hear them say about the person that left that "they just don't believe we have the truth".
Why is that?

I can put up with alot but this kinda made me mad. This was on Monday night. I just moved into my current apartment and I live on the first floor. The people above me last night were loud and carried on untill 4am. I had my Windows open and they must have too because you could hear them having sex, it was loud! Then afterwards they were slaming about opening and closing closet doors. Sounded like a heard of elephants.

I just moved here so I don't want to seem like a complainer but this crossed the line.

Romans 10:9-10 For if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved..

So if a person believes that God raised Jesus from the dead, does that mean he is "saved" or is there more to it than that?

Why do we not have the option of silent prayer before starting a day in a public/government institution where school age children face so much of life's turmoil in our society? My other question was - why is the gov't removing God - this is but one meaning behind that question. It isn't about being taught religion in a gov't/public institution - it is about being able to enforce your faith as you understand it to be... taught by your pastor, reverend, priest, rabbi, parent or any other.

Elhanan Ben-Avraham wrote this description of a typical day in Jerusalem. It makes me wonder why so many people think that only a few mentions of Jesus (Yeshua) in an ancient history do not prove that he existed. Instead, I find it amazing that the likes of Josephus mentioned him at all.
