Leave a sock at there door with a note inside telling them that you heard "everything" last night and your going out today to buy batteries for your recorder.
If they have any class I can guarantee that you wont hear it again.

For the most part, noise is part of the package when living in a communal environment. It's also part of having a downstairs apartment.
We live in a downstairs apartment, and joke about the little four-year-old girl in the apartment above us. She's a teeny little thing, but from the noises we hear coming from the apartment above, you'd think she gained 100 lbs the moment she steps foot in the front door.
If they were fighting loudly, playing music or tv loudly, or having a loud party, that's reason to call the police to come out or have the management say something to them.
What they were doing, walking around, opening and closing doors, even the sex, is not unreasonable, and there's not anything anyone can do to stop it. They aren't stomping around, even if it seems like it. Just regular walking in an upstairs apartment sounds like a herd of elephants to the people below.
If you feel like doing this, talk to them. Simply ask that after a certain time, they try to stay quiet.
I wouldn't tell them that, though. That conversation will not go well.

That's too bad. I hate noisy neighbors they can really make your life hell.
If they seem normal, ask them to please be a bit more quite. I find that usually these sorts of people never stop, I would tell manger if it goes on.I used to have the security gaurd come over and listen to what I had to put up with, if it is a decent apt. house, they will usually handle it for you. Good luck,I am so glad that we will now be moving to a 55 plus building, I just hope the older people don't party all night long too.

If you're paying rent, then you have the right to complain. BUT DO NOT CONFRONT THEM YOURSELF. Complain to the apartment complex owner/manager. There should be some kind of rules in regards to noise at 4 a.m.
If the noise continues after you have complained, then call the police (non-emergency of course) and have them tell your neighbors to keep it down. Simple as that!

Unfortunately this is typical of living with anyone above your head. I have people above me in my apartment who have a little girl. She runs around a lot. I haven't complained yet, cause she goes to bed by 7pm. She tends to jump up and down. Not enough to bug me yet. I just put my television up louder. I am anxious for them to move though, but this isn't likely for at least another year (doh!).
You can go to your landlord and file a complaint. I understand you don't want to cause problems, but you pay rent and live there too. You have rights.

Unfortunately, these are the kinds of issues one must deal with when living in a building with more than one unit. You could simply go up there and in a calm manner (tone) try to explain to them the noise level is a bit much. Depending on the maturity level of your neighbors and their respect for self and others. You man or may not be able to resolve the issue. Good luck and God bless****

do u think their approachable people? if so then kindly introduce yourself and let them know your new and although they were not doing it on purpose you found them to be quite loud the other night? are they always this loud? just let them know u want to maintain a good relationship and if they could possibly try to keep it down after midnight and u will try to do the same to oblige them, maybe have a beer and keep it light and friendly.

the note idea is a good suggestion, but I understand how annoying it can be, since I also live in a first-floor apartment. If it continues then tell your landlord, but for now probably just do the note thing and wait a few days to see if it changes.

I would wait until it happens again and then say something to them. I had a noisy neighbor and I spoke to them directly. When it continued I went to the landlord. They eventually moved. I know the landlord sent them a letter and it helped. Check you lease to see if there is a clause about quiet hours.

properly in case you prefer to stay on your apt... call the law enforcement officers on them regular and insect administration regular (in writing). the two they are going to get kicked out or circulate because of the pestering.... if no longer, tell ur administration you're transferring *and while you're breaking the hire* if the situtation does no longer advance in one million-2 weeks (be sure you supply them a 30 day notice b4 transferring).... in the event that they dont do something....and it states on your hire that tenants can no longer create a disturbance/nuisance than ur administration can legally enable u out of a hire settlement w/o penalty through violation of the hire.
