It's a two-step process, as Paul writes:
1) Believing He is Lord: recognizing that He is God and Lord over us all; that He is the creator, not a created being; that He is our Master. And, as prophesied thousands of years before Jesus' birth, God told us His Son would be resurrected from the dead. If you know these things, then you believe with all your heart that He is the Lord.
and
2) Since you believe, your behavior should always confess Him: not only through evangelism (which is a commandment), but with your words of love, comfort, and godliness to everyone else, whether they believe or not.

If you confess with your mouth and did not really believe it in your heart, it would be a foolish lie (like pretending that you are witty).
It does you no good to pray the sinner's prayer hypocritically. GOD knows what you are thinking. in fact, the Bible says "God judges the heart"!
On the other hand believing but keeping it secret doesn't satisfy God either! Jesus said "If you deny me to men, I will DENY YOU!!!"
So it does you no good to believe it, if you don't believe "well enough" to stand up for Jesus.
The Word of God says, "Out of the heart, the tongue speaks". Even we can discern what kind of man some one is, by his foul mouth!!!
Believe in Jesus, with your WHOLE heart, and your words (and even behaviour) will spring forth as worship to Him!

No, all you need to do is to believe that Jesus is Lord. By believing this you accept God's grace and it is only by God's grace that you are saved. God's grace = Jesus dying (paying) for our sins and being resurrected again thereafter. AFTER you've been saved, you will then confess this to others. This comes natural and is not "something" you must first do in order to be saved.

The bible says that the heart is treacherous and who can know it, only God knows it, the heart is the seat of motivation and it speaks also that where your heart is there your treasure will be also. Being saved leads to confessing Jesus with the mouth, it also takes in repentance, being baptize and leading that life that is good for you. now being baptize is a outward show of your direction and being buried and when you come up from the water your Resurrection a new life, the scripture is compact.

The gospel is so simple.People love to over complicate it.
Philip didn't tell the Ethiopian eunuch he had to spend years learning religious doctrine he shared salvation with him and baptized him.
Jesus told Nicodemus you must be born again.
Peter preached on the day of Pentecost and about 3000 were saved.
A person needs the true Gospel preached to them. They must be will to Spiritually hear and believe. Then they must confess they are a sinner needing forgiveness and salvation. They then need to confess to others they accepted Jesus.Yes, they need to share salvation with others (the gospel).

A man or woman is saved when they call upon the Lord, accept him in their lives (heart) and confess all of your sins and they will be forgiven.... Believing in your heart he is the Son of God, and confessing with your mouth you are speaking of the Love of God to others.. What he has done in your life and all of the wonderful things he has done for you. You are saved when you ask God to come into your life and be the leader of it... Just as simple as that... As Christians we are expected to live our lives according to the values set forth in the Bible... I hope this is helpful to you. Good luck and God bless, Much peace and love... God is Love****

The confession from your mouth is what is needed as well. To confess, is to acknowledge your sin, and acknowledge that Jesus has covered those sins with His blood. To truly believe in your heart is the faith that accompanies your confession. Combined, you are saved. You then continue to walk in the faith that Jesus is the Risen Lord and He will carry you through. You spread that faith as well.
My faith is personally being tested as we speak. I am under a lot of stress that only I have brought on myself. I KNOW Jesus is with me and I KNOW He will se me out of this, but my flesh is anxious and almost sick with stress. I will continue to believe that Jesus has His hand on my problem and will resolve it in His way, in His time. My salvation allows me to grab onto His hand and squeeze with all my might!!!!

pretty much, you have to confess your sins and repent(turn away) from your sins, we are all sinners, but Jesus can was us clean. God wants us to spread the good news of salvation through Jesus, if we confess with our mouth Jesus, then he will confess us to God when we die. I know its kinda confusing Its hard for me to put into words whats in my heart. But thats all. God Bless you I pray someone can explain it a little better!

"You believe that God is one. You do well; the demons also believe and shudder." James 2:19
"For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead." James 2:26
We need to be doers of the Word and not merely hearers who delude themselves. (also from James)
If you want to have the name
you have to get in the game - Redeemed by the precious blood of Jesus
