My best friend has been dating a guy for about 7 months. She is a catholic and he is a jehovah witness he told her that he could never marry outside of his religion, so if she wanted a future with him her religous beliefs would have to change. She is a very strong religious catholic and he has strong beliefs in his religion as well. but i don't think it fair for him to expect her to give up her religion to become part of his, when he has made it very clear to her that he would never give up his beliefs. is it fair to ask her to give up something for him that he wouldn't give up for her?

I am an atheist who grew up in a Christian household and Church so i understand some about Christianity. I have also read the Bible 2x once when i believed and once more. In the Bible it speaks more than once to the fact that Jesus spent his time with the Sinners and the Poor. He did not deride unbelievers for their belief. He simply told them what he was about and was kind to them. He told his followers to turn the other cheek. Even though i no longer believe in the "Son of God" i do try to live my life in a somewhat "Christian" manner. I try to be kind and helpful. I realize that no one is ever perfect and we are all guilty of being unkind. I was just wondering how many of you Christians really believe that the way you answer questions from atheists on here and in real life falls into your Christs teachings? I am not saying that it is all of you as i have read some very intelligent and kind replies by believers.. I have seen many many who reply with acid laced answers though.

What initially caused you to start believing the bible (or similar) as absolute fact?
The bible (or similar) itself didn't convince you, was it another person and what made you believe them?

We have new neighbors. They moved in this past weekend. Their dog barks non stop. It starts at 6:30 in the morning and goes on and on. My husband works second shift and rarely gets to bed before 2 am. Four and half hours is not enough sleep, obviously. What should I do about this issue. We have considered going over and talking with them, but we're hesitant to do so because it may lead to problems, especially if they don't take our concerns seriously and we have to call the police. We thought about calling the police anonymously. What are your thoughts? What would you do?

On the day Jesus died, three crosses were raised. Jesus hung on the center one between two criminals. One of the men mocked Jesus, but the other said to Him, “Remember me when You come into Your kingdom.” And Jesus answered, “Today you will be with Me in Paradise” (Luke 23:42-43).

Imagine the man’s thoughts as he took his last breath. He had paid a horrible penalty for his crimes. But now, because he put his faith in Jesus, he was welcomed into heaven as a child of God.

This is a WHAT IF question, so don't bash me for asking it.

In my history class, we had an interesting discussion the other day. How the subject was brought up is not important, but my history teacher was explaining that there have been recent studies that have shown Atheism and Theism use different parts of the brain.

This made me think, WHAT IF Atheism was genetic? What if some people have a genetic predisposition to believing in a higher power or rejecting it because of different brain structures? How would that affect religion if it could be proved?

Also, in the subject of conversion, assume for the sake of the question that people who convert have a heterogenous allele--that is, they are not predisposed one way or the other because they have an intermediate gene--that is, they're genetically "in between." (A simple example is flowers that can be red, white, or pink--the pink is the "in between.")

I'd love to hear you're opinions. =)

Remember: WHAT IF
