i'm referring to the order of matins, order of vespers, order of martyrs, etc. where did this stuff come from exactly? is it a part of apostolic tradition, or an invention (and i don't mean that in a bad way) of the early roman catholic church, or what?

someone says "I think I found my soul mate" ? I've always wondered that, I've seen the way many Atheists on here vehemently claim a soul doesn't exist and that there's no evidence for it.

So I'm curious what you do when someone says they've found their soul mate. Do you say "There is no soul" or just stay quiet? A persons beliefs should not just be on one part of their life so you can't really stand there and say nothing when they're saying something that you obviously know is wrong.

Don't give me the "You're just trying to attack Atheists" answer either, I'm simply giving you a situation and you tell me how you'd respond as per your beliefs. Attack question or not, I want to know and I want to know why you'd do one thing over the other.

Personally, I am good with my one wonderful wife but... why does it matter if groups of folks were to marry? Is there a non religous pragmatic reason that this should be forbidden?

Did you read Job... well you can clearly get his nature from there. Well they say if horses had a god he would be a horse.
Well humans are jerks... and the guy up there is the biggest jerk of them all. The all concept of monotheism sounds a bit fishy.
It’s like we would have only one rabbit in the world. And about the all mighty god thing, its just like the wizard of oz, he was going about that he is the big powerful wizard of oz but in realty he was just an *** fooling every one. Well getting me? Nothing is immortal. For example for a long time people thought that mountains were immortal always the same, well but if you didn’t hard yet mountains change all the time, they just have a different speed of doing it. Every thing has a beginning an end, even god. He is not all mighty. And he is not one. He wishes to be only roller-that’s makes him a dictator.
And I will not bow to any dictator man or god.
And if you ask how we can over come our creator, wish is all bullshit. You know evolution that by the way does not stand in contrast with god. So if you ask that, robots do it all the time in, you know… that the real nature of god
He his just a like the wizard of oz. FAKE

Do you see marriage to your spouse as a garment? A garment hides your body, and a spouse hides your secrets (well, a good one anyway). What do you think? How does it make you feel?

"The Prophet of Islam, peace be upon him, said, "Women are the twin halves of men". The Qur'an emphasizes the essential unity of men and women in a most beautiful simile:

They (your wives) are your garment and you are a garment for them. (2:187)

Just as a garment hides our nakedness, so do husband and wife, by entering into the relationship of marriage, secure each other's chastity. The garment gives comfort to the body; so does the husband find comfort in his wife's company and she in his. "The garment is the grace, the beauty, the embellishment of the body, so too are wives to their husbands as their husbands are to them."

Question: UK: What's the cheapest way to attract volunteers to join a charity?

Question Details: charities spend too much on administration and other expenses. that's my reason for not helping out. if charity bosses were to take less wages that would encourage many people like me to join. many charities are corrupt and do not declare the full sales from their charity shops. also managers from local charity shops steal money by not showing full sales figures; this is an epedmic and done widely with full knowledge of charity commision

Suppose a person is asking for serious personal advice, there are always some people who take a completely, uncaring negative point of view and hurt the questioner.

For instance, I read a question where a person was asking for serious advice because his son came crying home wounded with bruises. Most of the people immediately offered positive helpful advice, but two or three people responded very negatively with responses like "you are a fool to believe your son's tall stories", or like "nobody cries for such sissy incidents" or like "your son could be possibly making up the wounds himself" etc.

Why do Yahoo Answerers take pleasure in writing stuff like that? I agree that criticism can be helpful, and sometimes turn out to be true. But can't people express their criticism in a polite and respectful manner - something along the lines of "I don't want you to feel bad, but i think your son is at fault..." or like "No offense to you, but.....think about it"

Many nonbelievers visit this subject for the sake of destroying
the faith of those who would trust God. Those who are just
learning. Those who dose not have all there facts straight but would still try to teach others. Be happy with your newfound
faith. Those who would destroy it are workers of the Devil.
Study what you would like to share. To those who wont listen,
let them go to hell. Matt, 7:6 tells us " do not cast your pearls
before the swine" ( pearls meaning, words of wisdom ) " lest
they trample them under there feet, and turn and tear you in
pieces". Don't wast your time with the nonbelievers. Let them
go to hell. Its THERE choice! Find a friend who thinks as you
do and study the word together. The big QUESTION is, Why
should you wast your time on someone that is trying to destroy
your very soul? Can't you see that they are evil people only
pretending to be good? Do you think a good or nice person
would try to destroy the faith of a new believer?
Believers only please!

I would love to hear from a catholic on this. I grew up very catholic (I am now a born again Christian) but all growing up, I always heard "oh that jim smith, hes a good catholic." or "you need to go to ccd to be a good catholic" etc. Why do they identify more with the title of catholic than Christian. Thanks in advance for your answers.

I'm having a huge problem understanding the concept of original sin. If we were created in the image of God, and God is perfect in all his ways, then how can we possibly be lowlife scuzballs at birth? Sorry but that makes absolutely no sense to me whatsoever.

I am sooo annoyed with the ignorance of man! Most people on here ask legitimate questions to educate themselves or to learn and understand your ways, but you crap on them with your stupidity! Then everyone wonders why certain Religions are constantly under seige!
I have my own beliefs but share a passion to learn and understand yours, same with others. Some people are still trying to find their path and ask for help and guidance yet you insult their need for help!
Someone asked a question like, what faith do I follow? Could I be this since I believe in this/that? I don't know? and someone answered: No, you're just ignorant.
Since I only have so many characters to use, I can't put the other examples down...man!

What is wrong with you people!!? You need to step up and educate one another to really make a difference.

As for the ones that are truely out to help others understand and give intelligent answers to the best of their knowledge, I thank you and it's greatly appreciated

The way I see it, there are a few things we define as "Love":
1. A chemical reaction in the brain based on attraction, which then gradually turns into a friendship based on mutual respect, shared history and parenthood, etc. That's "Romantic Love".
2. The instinctive drive to propagate the species, protect your offspring and give it the greatest chance of survival. That's the love of a parent.
3. "Brotherly love", which is really just our group-nature as a social species which recognises strength in number.
4. Then there is the choice to show and feel compassion by developing empathy for the situations of others, no matter their deeds, because you can have an inkling of what led them there.

Seems to me that, if we only do 1,2&3, we have no claim to place ourselves above animals. It's the CHOICE to feel compassion that defines "Humanity". Agree? Disagree?

I know those who just refuse to see any good in something they've already made up their minds about no matter what is shown to them won't listen to this, but this is to those who are open minded. There is a verse that was mistranslated. In the english Quran you find in Sura 4 that it states a man may "beat" his wife. The arabic word is daraba. If you look at this word in its root, and how it's used in the rest of the Quran, it has nothing to do with physically harming others. It does have to do with separating, which is a step from divorce. The first is to sleep separately, and at that point it's meant as to live separately, in separate homes. How can it suddenly change meaning on one verse? What do you think of this?

All of my collections of the Upanishads only contain portions of the Brhadaranyaka Upanishad, which I like very much. Is the whole thing pretty long? Is that why they only contain portions? How long is the whole thing?

I would love to find an English translation of the entire Upanishad online. Does anyone know a site?

Thanks!

And don't tell me that jesus and god are right and shouldn't be questioned. I want you to actually think about this and answer it from a non religious biased point of view. Imagine that you one day found out that your religion, and all of the stories of god and jesus and the bible were all made up stories. Would you feel cheated? Would you be upset that you wasted a lot of time in church or preaching to people about religion? I'm sure some of you would be pissed because of all the times you could have sinned but didn't.
