This question was recently asked: “Why do I hear that the crucifixion and resurrection of christ is an historical fact?” This was the best answer. “It is not historical fact. I know, I have a degree in history. Historical fact can be proven. Fables can't be proven. You are referring to a part of a mythological system of belief. Myths and beliefs can't be proven and are not accepted as fact.”

There must be a psychological explanation for this blindness, because there is not any historical explanation

1. What we know about Alexander the Great could fit on only a few sheets of paper; yet no one doubts that Alexander existed. (Meie.MarJ - Meier, John P. - A Marginal Jew: Rethinking the Historical Jesus. New York: Doubleday, 1991.)

2. There is no body of ancient literature in the world which enjoys such a wealth of good textual attestation as the New Testament. (F.F. Bruce, The Books and the Parchments: How We Got Our English Bible, Fleming H. Revell Co., 1950, 178.”

3. In real terms, the New Testament is easily the best attested ancient writing in terms of the sheer number of documents, the time span between the events and the document, and the variety of documents available to sustain or contradict it. There is nothing in ancient manuscript evidence to match such textual availability and integrity.( Ravi K. Zacharias, Can Man Live Without God? Word Publishing, 1994, 162.)

who swear by "the word" of the bible really just as bad as Islamic fundamentalists who translate their doctrine, with the tragic results that we've all seen?

Sure Christians aren't running off to seek paradise through suicide bombing but isn't taking the written words literally still as bad, no matter which religion it comes from?

What if we did it in love instead of spite? Would you than give heed to what we say, at least consider it, if we chose to consider your viewpoint? I myself have seen 2 atheists convert to Pentecostalism, I am engaged to one.

People in North America already have the gospel and millions of people who can witness to them. Those who reject Christ here will have no excuse.

There are more than 1 billion people who have never heard the gospel in the rest of the world (most of them in Asia). Do you think we should shift our focus to world missions?

Watch this video : http://www.gfa.org/video-titus

These people accept Jesus even though they never heard about Jesus before in their lives. Sometimes they embrace him as something they have waited for all their lives.

It makes me wonder what's happening in America... I live in Quebec, Canada and people here are completely closed to the gospel.

God reveals himself a lot in countries like India and very little in America. God does a lot of miracles through the missionaries there. I think it is because the people there have a very limited access to the gospel. Here, we have everything and people still reject God.

Jesus is the reason for the season. If you ask you shall recieve. You just won't have to ask as much if you are really hot and a girl. They are already special in the Lord's eyes!

Agree?

From what I've seen, no. But what do you think? I haven't been everywhere and would like to know what others who have been to more places than Pakistan and Kuwait (where I've gone) have experienced? What do you think of the following?

"In fact, I can't think of any country that really treats Muslim women the way they are supposed to be treated as stipulated in the Quran and hadith. Most Muslim countries' approach to women falls between the two extremes of complete oppression and encouragement to behave like Western Judeo-Christian women, which is certainly not what Islam intended. I have dealt, to some extent, with the former case and believe that most people who read this paper will sympathize with the plight of these Muslim women. Their solutions might involve the "modernization" or "Westernization" of these women, but this is not at all what I am advocating.

Normally I'm an extremely cautious person (emphasis on the extremely) , but my brother tried it and he thinks I should do it. I wouldn't be skydiving solo-I would have someone more experienced with me (think it's called 'tandem') or something. So, what do you think? I figure if I don't end up dying I will at least be able to say that I did it and everyone says I should be more spontaneous anyway.

I've heard some atheists say that God is fictional and just an explaination for things that we can't yet understand. What if there are some things that humans can never understand? Things that we are absolutely incapable of ever knowing...even in principle. Does that mean that there will always be a place for the god of the gaps? What if there are some things that can only be understood in a religious context?

Through my time here on Answers, I have witnessed many definitions of a 'true Christian'. So I have though long and hard about it, and I've come up with my own version.

A true Christian is someone who has no need for the Bible. To them it is just a book. They only follow the teachings of Christ, and they follow His example. By doing that, they automatically fulfil all of the 10 commandments, so believing in God is optional. After all, the religion is called CHRIST-ianity.

Surely my definition describes people who show unconditional love for all humans, regardless of faith, which is what Jesus taught and showed. Therefore a true Christian (by my definition) would not THINK about condemning others (particularly Atheists) to hell.

Also they would be more acceptED by others. There wouldn't be all of these constant challenges that get thrown about here on R&S.

Have I found the real meaning of Christianity, despite not being Christian myself?

A few of these versus made me think about this:

1 John 5:18 "We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the one who was born of God keeps him safe, and the evil one cannot harm him."

1 John 3:9 "No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God's seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God."

Are we allowed to make mistakes after we're saved? I know I have made plenty of mistakes after I have and I'm truly sorry for them. But is that enough? If I make one mistake after being saved does that mean I am going to hell? And if I make a mistake more than once can I still be forgiven?
