Through my time here on Answers, I have witnessed many definitions of a 'true Christian'. So I have though long and hard about it, and I've come up with my own version.

A true Christian is someone who has no need for the Bible. To them it is just a book. They only follow the teachings of Christ, and they follow His example. By doing that, they automatically fulfil all of the 10 commandments, so believing in God is optional. After all, the religion is called CHRIST-ianity.

Surely my definition describes people who show unconditional love for all humans, regardless of faith, which is what Jesus taught and showed. Therefore a true Christian (by my definition) would not THINK about condemning others (particularly Atheists) to hell.

Also they would be more acceptED by others. There wouldn't be all of these constant challenges that get thrown about here on R&S.

Have I found the real meaning of Christianity, despite not being Christian myself?

I see the thumbs down people have paid me a visit here.

A few of you were 0-1 until I just came back through.

Note that opinions is what I asked for, and I consider no person's opinion as less valid than my own, so it's automatic that I thumbs up everyone.

Whoever came in giving thumbs down obviously can't take being in the minority.

I totally LOVE your definition, because it would be so inclusive of so many faiths and spiritual paths, not just Christianity. The definition is that a person is a person who shows unconditional love for all humans, regardless of faith, which "is what Jesus taught and showed." Wow. Showing unconditional love is fantastic, without regard for the other person's faith, it is awesome!!! Witches and pagans and WIccans have very similar philosophies, and the idea that we can see our mutual similarities is an exciting idea to me!

Bright Blessings,

Who can be a true christian? Anyone it is a religion...man made
Who actually knows what Jesus was teaching? No one

knows for sure considering the gospels were wrote by coping and 40-50 years after his death (if he died when they say he did)....No notes nothing!

Was Jesus a "Christian"? No

The bible is the sacred text of the religion supporting the doctrine......A Christian believes in this doctrine.....Those who don't are not a believer of the religion.....

I think that most of the important fundamentals of the religion are shared by many religions and spiritual sects....You don't have to be a christian to have a relationship with the creator...Why would you rather believe in a man when you can go straight to the top....I think that you are making a bit much out of something that is either black or white...You believe in the religion of Christianity or not......It is just that simple after that you should find you own fulfillment..

Try reading up on Humanism for example

I was raised a Christian, and am at that point where I am searching for answers. Christianity in it's true definition says that to go to heaven you have to except that Jesus was the son of God and that he died for your sins. People are able to manipulate the teachings of Christ into what ever they believe, but it is my feeling that Christ died for your sins whether you believe it or not. If heaven is only for those that have excepted this, then what about the people who have never even heard the story. It is hard for me to believe that some Jewish guy, or Musslim, or somebody from a tribe in the middle of the jungle, who has led a good life is going to hell, and some serial killer who excepts Christ in the Electric Chair is going to Heaven. I have come to think that if that's the way it is, please send me to hell with the other three. I want no part of a religion like that. But living my whole life with Christ as my savior, you see my dilemma. But if you never question something, can you really ever believe it 100%

A true Christian should follow the teachings of Jesus Christ.

'"... people who show unconditional love for all humans, regardless of faith, which is what Jesus taught and showed. Therefore a true Christian (by my definition) would not THINK about condemning others (particularly Atheists) to hell."

I totally agree with this quoted statement.

I agree in mostly everything except for the part of believing in God as optional. I don't know if they would think so. If the religion is called Christianity then Christ is the head of it, and he may be compared to God or maybe called he Messiah he could be equated with God, thus they would believe in God by believing in Christ.
Still, I believe what you're saying is mostly true, people don't need a book when they believe in Jesus and follow his doctrine. In my case, I respect him but Christianity has sickened me and I even became averted to them. I'm working on it, trying to understand and respect people but it's not easy.

Christianity surely developed later than maximum religions (i.e. buddhism, hinduism), quickly after a guy named Jesus Christ replaced into born. He replaced into an incredible logician, confirmed actual look after others, and inspired others to realize this besides. The God they talk approximately in Christianity isn't a extensive elderly guy who lives interior the sky, he's the writer of the universe, which incorporate human beings. For hundreds of years, Christians by no potential feared dying. while the religion emerged for the 1st time interior the Roman Empire, they have been persecuted for merely approximately 3 centuries, however the religion grew larger. they did no longer concern actuality the two. To the Christians, actuality replaced into that once one's soul leaves the physique, they are going to be observed as from their God to stay in his everlasting kingdom. the religion itself could have been all made up by potential of human beings, however the theory of helping one yet another, doing what's stable ought to by no potential injury everybody, good?

Retroactyv,

As you know Christian means to be Christ-Like and while you seem to have a grasp that its the requirement to follow in Yeshua's footsteps you like many others seem to can't separate Yeshua from Christ. Christ isn't his last name, it means Anointed and was received when he overcame the laws he was under. This is to say that anyone who overcomes there own laws can become Christs as well.

"...was justified by fulfilling the Law. He was the Christ of God, since not one of the rest of mankind had observed the Law completely. Had any one else fulfilled the commandments of the Law, he would have been the Christ." Hence, when we "...thus fulfill the law, [we] are able to become Christs" (Hippolytus, Refut. Omn. Haer. vii. 34).

The bible or any other scripture are suppose to be use as a catalyst to come to "know thy self" and aren't literal stories but allegorical stories that are portraying aspects inside your own mind.

G.R.S. Mead entitled Fragments of a Faith Forgotten, this explanation is put forth: “…what the Gnostics projected onto the screen… [in the form of a ] picture of the universe was in reality a picture of their own minds. Its mythology is a symbolic portrayal, almost a deliberate one, of the forces which operate in the structuring and evolution of the human personality”.

Yeshua called the scriptures the keys of knowledge when you turn them within and condemned the pharisees for their literal and ritualistic interpretation of them. Paul called the literal worship of the scriptures the letter that killeth. The new testement was written because the old testement was written for a more tribal type of people, hence the strong usage of blood scarifice and a insane God, but these symbols started to make people stumble more than it made them look with in, so a new one was written in a more historical style so that men and women of simple faith wouldn't go around killing animals and people offering to God, when it wasn't suppose to be interpreted that way.

To follow Yeshua's footsteps is the process of coming to know thy self and only then can you know God. So saying that you have to believe in his teaching and have God as optional is incorrect, its more like you follow the teachings so you can know God.

Its more than just unconditional love, you can't know what true love is until you become known. Its about viewing things from a higher perspective and not just separating them into this is Good and this is Evil, because thats duality which is also known as the tree of life and death. One has to begin to view things from the soul perspective where all is good since each lesson and experience builds a individual closer to coming to know God(even though it is snail paced for most).

I understand those who parade around calling themselves Christians condemn people left and right for not accepting their literal interpretation of the scriptures. But thats the nature of all men and women who are fragmented and are under the illusion that they know thy selves and truth. If those condemning had any truth in them then they wouldn't condemn them because they would understand why that individual is in the position they are in. There is a reason why Atheists exist or any other type of religion or sect. Plus, a fiery and brimstone hell doesn't exist anyhow. Hell just means separation from God. Its also called "outer darkness" and "the far away country" as given by Yeshua.

We are all prodigal sons and daughters of the kingdom who are lost in the far away country and under the rule of the God of this world. Which is also know as the left hand of correction, which is the hand that uses trial and tribulation to make sure that each man and women corrects themselves. That make sense?

Have you found the real meaning of Christianity? The beginning part when you said following the teachings of Yeshua the end part no. But if you come to be aware of that by fulfilling his commandments you are learning to know thy self so that you may know God then you would have a broader understanding of what it is to be one. But none the less your question was truthful and earnest and I like how you are seeking to know what it is to be one.

If you need me to further elaborate, I will be willing.

Peace

"A true Christian is someone who has no need for the Bible. To them it is just a book. They only follow the teachings of Christ, and they follow His example."

yeah, i always thought that was silly. jesus was a jew, he believed in the bible (the old testament), he followed its rules and preached its laws.
so if someone wants to be like jesus, throwing away the OT is the furthest thing away from following his example.

I think your definition also covers paganism/witchcraft whose only law is to harm none. The two words HARM NONE are what Jesus taught covering all the commandments and more. I have not written this to cause offense to anyone and apologise if I have done so. Just offering my POV.

Yes you have! You are in the Masters Degree program where as Catholics and Fundamentalists etc aren't even in Kindergarten. Kindergarten is realizing there isn't a separate deity. The 10 COMMANDments are flawed. Anything else you want to know?
