Normally I'm an extremely cautious person (emphasis on the extremely) , but my brother tried it and he thinks I should do it. I wouldn't be skydiving solo-I would have someone more experienced with me (think it's called 'tandem') or something. So, what do you think? I figure if I don't end up dying I will at least be able to say that I did it and everyone says I should be more spontaneous anyway.

Godshew-I think you're trying to answer the question, but the answer's very enigmatic, don't you think?

Do what you think is right, would you risk your life and have fun? (weeeee!)

Or will you sit inside your house lecturing your brother all day about it? (...)

Skydiving isn't as dangerous as you think. You have a better chance of getting hurt driving to the dropzone and during the jump.

I made a tandem two years ago and then started training and I'm a licensed skydiver with a few hundred jumps now. It's a wonderful experience. I've never meet a person who said they wish they hadn't jumped. Everyone seems to love their jump. Some people find that a tandem is all they want, one jump, mark it off the life's to do list, and others make skydiving part of their lives.

I love the sport and I strongly encourage you to make a jump! Blue Skies!

Seems to me you're looking for a liberation from a situation. Skydiving could be fun. I've been interested in paragliding (similar but you 'erect' the parachute bubble, have a good run, observe the wind currents prior and lift off from smaller mountain cliff.) Somewhat safer than jumping from an airplane. Also, parachuting is usually done with 2 ppl (Tandem?) in the beginning jump sharing the same parachute. much safer, then again you have gliders of sorts and what not. My favorite would be aircraft though - utility or acrobatic type...

In any case, I see no harm, do your physical, mental and other sorts of prep. before you do the actual jump... will help...

or just go to a long run in the park where it's safe during the day... works just as fine... but to add edge... you may just download and play few h. of shooting games (rpg)...

and please forgive my spelling if bad... English is not my first language...

have fun & enjoy life :-)

Solo and tandem are different. An accelerated solo dive program usually involves one or more experienced divers exiting the plane with you. They are trained to stay close to you and ensure that you pull your chute at the right time.

A tandem dive is when you are basically strapped to an experienced diver. You fall as one.

For your first dive I recommend either a tandem dive or a static line dive. A static line dive is a solo dive, but your chute is pulled for you by a line that is clipped into the plane. Basically like how you see paratroopers do it. Static line jumps are usually done at much lower altitudes because there is practically no free fall. If you really want the free fall experience, go with the tandem dive. I wouldn't recommend a solo free fall for your first dive, especially since you stated that you are not normally a risk taker. It's just not worth the extra risk. If you like the tandem or static line jump, you can always go back and do a solo free fall or work you way up to it after a few static line and "clear and pull" jumps where you would get some experience pulling your own chute.

My neighbor just sky-dove...dived, whatever...for the first time last weekend. He was telling me about it last night. He said that he is HOOKED. He said when they got to a certain height in the air, he thought, "What am I doing here", but once he jumped, it was amazing. The term he used was 'euphoric'.

I want to do it one day, but I'll be the first to admit that I haven't gotten the guts yet. I hope you choose to do it.

Grace(not law) unto you, and peace(not division),
from God our Father and the Lord Jesus-->Christ.

Descending: falling: is not a grace us thing: Galatians 5:4.
Ascending: twice risen if twice fallen: is grace us: Col 3:3.

Law descends, tears down, falleth to desolation.
Grace ascends, builds up, to never faileth(falleth).

Law will get you high, but also cast you dwn to groundead.
Grace will get you higher, to safest of safe-->safe-->safest.

GWB says you're now safer; But not yet safe.
Safe<--safer is earthy of safe<--safer<--safer.
Sounds like your brother is Bush League (Bwd).
Chances are you'll be ok, but it's not a sure thing.
Law tends to sucker ppl, use them, then kill them.

The GRACE of our Lord Jesus-->Christ with you-->all. Amen.

Go for it!!

I've done it and its amazing. You'll want to go back up again as soon as your feet hit the ground. You might sh*t yourself at first but omg theres no other adrenalin rush like it.

Besides which, you only live once, so LIVE it. Good luck.

I don't know what this question has to do with religion but I don't think you should be making potentially life-threatening decisions because of something "everyone says". Make your own decisions.

If you feel the need to throw yourself at the ground at an obscene velocity from cloud-heights, your normal life is clearly not challenging enough for you.

You should be glad your life is that easy...

So don't send your ghost crying to us if your parachute fails.
