When I was a missionary, I did knock on quite a few JW's doors. Most of the time, they were very polite. Some let us in and we would have some interesting discussions.

Just like everyone else, Jehovah's Witnesses can open the door and have a discussion with the Mormons. As one of Jehovah's Witnesses, I respect the Mormons for being persistent in their ministry. It's true that we differ in beliefs so we will not agree on everything, but we should be able to exchange thoughts about Jesus since we have a common belief in him. Above all, when speaking with Mormons or people from any other faith-based group, we as Jehovah's Witnesses would apply the Bible principle found at Matthew 7:12, which is: “All things, therefore, that you want men to do to you, you also must likewise do to them." Yes, it would be quite interesting also if Jehovah's Witnesses knocked on a Mormon's door. But if both parties applied Jesus' rule of thumb, the conversation would be pleasant.

Every Jehovah's Witness works to act with kindness and love in a general way, but the details will vary regarding how each Jehovah's Witness engages with Mormons who knock at his door.
Of course, Jehovah's Witnesses are uniquely aware of the demands of door-to-door witnessing, and understand that the motives of other lay-ministers are generally godly. If their circumstances permit, many or most Jehovah's Witness householders are likely to invite the Mormon to sit for a few moments and perhaps enjoy some heat (in winter), some air conditioning (in summer), and perhaps a drink according to the general sentiment of Matthew chapter 25.
(Matthew 25:34-40) Then the king will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who have been blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you... I got thirsty and you gave me something to drink. ...Then the righteous ones will answer him with the words, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty, and give you something to drink? ...And in reply the king will say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, To the extent that you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’
Lay-ministers of both religions are generally quite cordial with one another, well understanding that their commission is to preach "good news" rather than to debate or argue.
(Matthew 24:13-14) He that has endured to the end is the one that will be saved. And this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come.

Matthew 10:7 "As YOU go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of the heavens has drawn near.’
Matthew 24:14 "And this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come. "
Isaiah 61:2 " to proclaim the year of goodwill on the part of Jehovah and the day of vengeance on the part of our God; to comfort all the mourning ones;"
Romans 10:13-15 "For “everyone who calls on the name of Jehovah will be saved.” 14 However, how will they call on him in whom they have not put faith? How, in turn, will they put faith in him of whom they have not heard? How, in turn, will they hear without someone to preach? 15 How, in turn, will they preach unless they have been sent forth? Just as it is written: “How comely are the feet of those who declare good news of good things!”
There are multiples parts in the bible that we see the early christians doing the spread of the good news of God´s kingdom from house to house and town to town, that is why Jehovah´s witnesses preach.
